Moderner Beta World Presets: A Guide to Choosing and Understanding Them
Moderner Beta lets you pick from a large library of built-in world presets, each one recreating the terrain generation of a specific era of Minecraft or offering a themed twist on it. This guide explains what the preset categories contain and how to work with them through the mod's interface.
Where Presets Live
All preset selection happens inside the Moderner Beta World Presets screen, which sits under the broader Moderner Beta World Customization area. Related screens cover chunk, biome, and cave biome customization separately. When you pick a preset, its Preset Description appears so you can read what the world will look like before committing.
Era-Based Presets
The core of the mod is a set of presets that reproduce the terrain generation of older versions. Each one is named after the version it imitates and comes with a description beginning "Explore a world with the terrain generation of..."
- Classic: options include Classic 0.30 and Classic 0.0.14a_08.
- Indev: the Indev 20100223 generation, plus themed variants based on the Indev Paradise, Woods, and Hell themes.
- Infdev: several snapshots, from Infdev 20100227 through Infdev 20100611.
- Alpha: Alpha v1.1.2_01, plus alpha winter with a Winter Mode-inspired biome.
- Beta: a wide spread, from Beta 1.1_02 and Beta 1.7.3 up through Beta 1.8.1 and Beta 1.9 Prerelease 3.
- Release: 1.0.0, 1.1, 1.2.5, 1.6.4, 1.12.2, and 1.17.1.
Bedrock: Bedrock Edition 1.2 and 1.17, which pair the terrain of 1.12.2 and 1.17.1 with Bedrock-style biome and terrain generation.- Pocket Edition: the pe preset reproduces Pocket Edition v0.6.0 Alpha.
There are also range presets that blend eras: finite covers Classic 0.0.14a_08 to Indev 20100223, alpha infdev covers Infdev 20100227 to Alpha v1.1.2_01, early release covers Beta 1.8 to Release 1.6.4, and major release covers Release 1.7.2 to 1.17.1.
Scale and Terrain Variants
Many versions have Large Biomes and AMPLIFIED counterparts. Large Biomes versions scale generation up four times; AMPLIFIED versions raise the terrain dramatically. These exist for Beta 1.8.1, Beta 1.9 Prerelease 3, and most Release versions, plus release hybrid and snow aint snowier. The early release range also has its own Large Biomes and AMPLIFIED forms.
Hybrid and Themed Presets
Some presets mix eras or add a concept:
- beta hybrid and release hybrid combine 1.6.4 terrain with Beta 1.7.3 or vanilla biomes.
- snow aint snowier uses 1.17.1 terrain with newer biomes.
- beta skylands and skylands recreate the removed Sky Dimension.
- beta vanilla and beta large biomes use Beta 1.7.3 generation with vanilla or enlarged biomes.
- beta xbox legacy builds a square archipelago in a limited world like early Xbox 360 Edition.
Customized Presets
A group of presets are marked as Customized, meaning they ship with adjusted generation settings:
- beta isles: you begin on an archipelago ringed by ocean and outer islands.
- beta water world: a world entirely submerged in deep ocean.
- beta isle land: floating islands scattered across the sky.
- beta cave delight: hilly, mountainous terrain.
- beta mountain madness: very tall, cliff-heavy mountains.
- beta drought: a world with very little water.
- beta cave chaos: great heights combined with expansive caves.
- beta survival island: a small island in an endless ocean.
The beta custom and release custom entries exist for building your own customized presets on those generation bases.
Legacy Console Sizes
Four presets mimic Legacy Console Edition: legacy console classic (864x864), small (1024x1024), medium (3072x3072), and large (5120x5120). The smaller three use 4x or 2x smaller biomes; all are archipelagos.
Working With Presets
Use the search field to filter the list; if nothing matches, the screen shows No matching presets. Selecting a preset fills in its description, and you can then adjust the deeper settings.
For advanced work, open the Quick Import/Export panel. It presents a text box with a hint telling you to copy and paste JSON code into it, and notes that settings can be copied into a text editor for easier editing. If the pasted code is malformed, you will see invalid json — Settings JSON is invalid. If it cannot be read, you get invalid settings — Couldn't read new settings, reset to previous settings. Use save as title to choose where to export, and the Reset world settings to default? message guards the reset action. Some options, such as self, are marked as too advanced and must be edited through JSON instead of the interface.
