Neat Health Bar Display Options: HP Percentage, Full Health, Target-Only, and Type Colors
Neat lets you control exactly what its health bars display and when they appear. The options below cover the health bar toggle, percentage readouts, filtering for full-health or targeted entities, distance limits, and coloring by entity type.
Turning Health Bars On and Off
Toggle Health Bars switches the entire health bar display on or off. Use it when you want a clean screen without removing any other part of the interface.
Showing HP Percentage
Show HP Percentage adds a numeric percentage to the health bar, so you can read an entity's remaining health as a number instead of judging it from the bar's length alone. Turn it on when exact values matter more than a quick visual glance.
Hiding Entities at Full Health
Two related settings let you skip entities that have taken no damage:
- show entity full health — controls whether entities at full health get a health bar at all.
- showFullHealth — the same idea stated as a filter: only show bars for entities that are at full health.
With these off, an untouched entity stays unmarked until it takes damage, which keeps the display focused on fights in progress.
Target-Only Mode
only health bar for target restricts the display to the single entity you are currently targeting. Everything else is ignored. This is useful in crowded areas where bars from many entities would otherwise clutter the view.
Distance and Line of Sight
max distance without line of sight sets how far away an entity can be while still showing a health bar when you cannot see it directly. Entities beyond that distance without a clear line of sight are not displayed. Lower values keep the display limited to what is nearby and visible; higher values let bars persist through obstacles at longer ranges.
Display on Players
Display on Players controls whether health bars appear over other players. Leave it on for player-versus-player situations, or turn it off if you only care about non-player entities.
Coloring by Type
Color Health Bar by Type makes the bar's color depend on the kind of entity it belongs to, so different mob categories are distinguishable at a glance rather than all sharing one color.
Name Tag Behavior
Name Tag Render Behavior determines how name tags are handled alongside the health bars. Adjust it to match how much text you want shown with each bar.
Hiding the GUI
render without gui keeps health bars visible even when the rest of the graphical interface is hidden. Enable it if you want health information to remain on screen while the normal HUD is suppressed.
Debug Info
show debug with f3 ties debug information to the F3 debug view. When this is active, the debug overlay appears together with the F3 screen, giving you extra readouts while you inspect entities.
Background Padding
Background Padding adjusts the space around the health bar's background. Increasing it gives the bar more breathing room; decreasing it tightens the frame around the bar.
Working With the Hotkeys
Several of these features are bound to actions rather than living only in a menu. Where a control has its own hotkey, use the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu) to trigger it. If you want a different binding than the one already assigned, change it there. Any action without a stated key should be treated the same way: find its entry in the controls menu and assign whatever key you prefer.
Suggested Combinations
- For clean combat focus: enable only health bar for target and disable show entity full health.
- For precise damage tracking: enable Show HP Percentage and Color Health Bar by Type.
- For a minimal HUD: use render without gui and reduce Background Padding.
- For long-range awareness: raise max distance without line of sight.
Each setting works independently, so you can combine them to match how much information you want on screen at any moment.
