Toggling the Noxesium FPS Counter and Game Time Overlay for Shader Development
Noxesium includes two small on-screen overlays that are useful when you are tuning shaders or checking performance: an FPS counter and a game time display. Both are toggled or configured through Noxesium's own settings rather than through crafting or items.
Toggling the FPS Counter
The FPS counter is a compact readout that appears in the upper-left area of your screen and reports your current frame rate. It is designed to sit out of the way while you play or test.
To turn it on or off, use the F3 + Y hotkey combination. When you switch it on, a message confirms that the counter is now active and reminds you that F3 + Y turns it back off. When you switch it off, a message confirms the counter is no longer displayed.
If you prefer not to use the hotkey, you can reach the same toggle through Noxesium's settings menu, which opens with F3 + V.
Enabling the Game Time Overlay
The game time overlay is a separate small display that shows the current in-game time. Its stated purpose is shader development, so it is aimed at players who need to see how the world clock advances while they work on visual effects.
You enable it from the Noxesium settings menu. There is no separate default key listed for this overlay in the mod's own help text, so open the settings with F3 + V and turn it on there. Once enabled, it appears as a small overlay alongside your other HUD elements.
Opening the Settings Menu
The settings menu is the central place for Noxesium's options, including both overlays described above. Press F3 + V to open it. Everything you toggle here applies to the client side.
Other Performance and Debug Options
While you are in the settings menu, you may notice related entries:
- Experimental Optimizations — a warning-labeled option that swaps out the normal UI rendering path for a faster replacement. It is marked unstable, and any UI rendering problems that appear while it is active should be reported to Noxesium rather than to other mods.
- Noxesium UI performance patches — toggled with F3 + W, this switches the mod's UI performance patches on or off, with a confirmation message each way.
- Reset Toggle Keys on Death — controls whether held sprint or sneak toggles are cleared when you respawn, matching the usual vanilla behavior when enabled.
- Dump Incoming Packets and Dump Outgoing Packets — logging options for Noxesium packets handled by or sent from the client, aimed at server developers building Noxesium integrations.
- Extended Error Logging — adds extra detail to logs for certain invalid packet exceptions, also intended for server-side development.
- Team Glow Keybinds — adds keybinds that make players glow according to team color. These require a game restart to take effect and only function while you are spectating. Individual color toggles exist for red, orange, yellow, lime, green, cyan, aqua, blue, purple, and pink, plus an option to enable all highlights and one to disable them all.
- Render Maps in UI — when active, maps held in a hand are drawn in the top-left or top-right corner of the screen rather than in relation to your hand. The "Ask server" choice lets the server decide. Separate settings control the map's size and position.
Quick Reference
- F3 + Y — turn the on-screen FPS counter on or off.
- F3 + V — open the Noxesium settings menu, where the game time overlay and other options live.
- F3 + W — toggle Noxesium's UI performance patches.
Both overlays are lightweight and client-side, so you can leave the FPS counter running during normal play and enable the game time display only when you need it for shader work.
