Oh The Biomes We've Gone: Biomes, Blocks and Structures

guide

Oh The Biomes We've Gone is a large worldgen mod that adds biomes, wood sets and eighteen structures. This guide covers its scale and how often each structure actually appears.

Blocks first, by a wide margin

The mod is 1,052 pages across 953 blocks and 99 items, built on 650 crafting recipes on 1.21.1 (613 on 1.20.1) and 139 stonecutting recipes (136). That ratio is what a biome mod looks like from the inside: the content is terrain, wood sets and plants, with items appearing only where a plant produces something.

Cooking is minimal — 20 smelting recipes on both builds and 3 each for campfire cooking and smoking.

Eighteen structures, and the spacing spread is enormous

The placement settings sort the structures into tiers that range from constant to genuinely rare:

  • Spacing 4, separation 1 — the Ironwood Gour Plateau. This is terrain, not a landmark; you will not avoid it.
  • Spacing 8 — Dripstone Arch and Lush Arch (separation 2), Rugged Fossil (separation 6)
  • Spacing 12, separation 3 — Sharpened Rock
  • Spacing 16, separation 4 — Red Rock Arch
  • Spacing 25, separation 20 — Prairie House and its Abandoned variant
  • Spacing 32 to 34 — Large Cold Lake, plus the six-strong set of Forgotten, Pumpkin Patch, Red Rock, Salem, Skyris and Swamp builds
  • Spacing 40, separation 30 — Bog Trial
  • Spacing 50, separation 35Aspen Manor 1 and 2, the rarest things the mod places

Plan around the last two rows. The arches and rock formations are scenery that arrives on its own; the Aspen Manors at 50 and 35 are a destination.

The six mid-tier builds are the interesting ones

Forgotten, Pumpkin Patch, Red Rock, Salem, Skyris and Swamp all sit at a spacing of 34 with a separation of only 8. That low separation means they can generate relatively close together despite the wide spacing, so a region that has one often has another nearby.

Version note

The 1.21.1 build is 2.6.0 on NeoForge and the 1.20.1 build is 1.8.0 on Forge. The newer line carries about 40 more crafting recipes; otherwise the two are close.

Where to start

Travel before you craft. Nothing in the recipe list is reachable without first finding the biome that grows its wood, and the biomes are the reason to install the mod.
