How to Undo Excavations in Ore Excavation (History Limits and Fixes)
Ore Excavation can reverse the last excavation you performed, but the undo only succeeds when the mod can put everything back exactly as it was. This guide covers how to trigger an undo, what limits its history, and what each failure message means.
Performing an Undo
Trigger the undo action with the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu). You do not need to open any menu or craft anything to use it.
When the undo begins, the mod reports success with the message "Undoing last excavation...." That message confirms the reversal is in progress.
If there is nothing recorded to reverse, you get no history instead: "Undo Failed: Nothing to undo." This appears when no excavation is available in the stored history.
History Limits
Undo works against your excavation history, and that history is not unlimited. Once an entry is no longer available, the undo cannot reach it, and you will see the no history failure. Treat undo as a way to reverse your most recent excavation rather than a full rollback of everything you have ever mined.
Undo can also be turned off entirely. When that happens, the mod reports "Undo has been disabled!" No reversal will occur until it is enabled again.
Troubleshooting Undo Failures
Undo can fail even when history exists. The mod names the specific reason:
- Undo Failed: Unable to repay XP — The excavation granted experience, and the undo could not take that experience back. The reversal stops rather than leaving your XP out of balance.
- Undo Failed: Unable to repay items — The excavation produced items, and the undo could not recover them. If those items are gone from your inventory, the undo cannot complete.
- Undo Failed: Area obstructed — Something now occupies the space where the original blocks need to go. Clear the obstruction and try the undo again.
In each case the undo is refused rather than applied partially, so your world is not left half-restored.
Settings That Affect Excavation and Undo
These options change how excavation behaves, which in turn affects what an undo has to reverse:
- shape disabled — Shape mining is off. The mod reports "Shape mining is disabled!" so you know the shape-based excavation will not run.
- Show Shape Outlines — Displays the outline of the shape being mined.
- Use Block Side Hit — Bases the excavation on the side of the block you hit.
- tool class — Restricts excavation to "Only Standard Tools."
- invert tbl — Inverts the tool blacklist, flipping which tools are excluded.
- invert bbl — Inverts the block blacklist, flipping which blocks are excluded.
- open folder — Opens the config folder where these settings are stored.
Controls
Some actions require you to hold a key while performing them. The Must Hold Key control governs this behavior. Assign it in the controls menu; the mod does not fix a specific key for it.
Practical Order of Operations
- Run your excavation.
- Trigger the undo with its hotkey.
- Watch for success to confirm the reversal started.
- If it fails, read the message: no history means nothing is stored, the XP and items messages mean the mod cannot return what was gained, and Area obstructed means you must clear the space first.
- If you see "Undo has been disabled!", re-enable undo before trying again.
Keeping the area clear and your inventory holding the excavated items gives undo the best chance of completing.
