Getting Started with Machine-Based Crafting
The Assembling Machine, Mixer, and Press are dedicated blocks that automate specific categories of item production. Each machine handles a distinct set of recipes, and you will need to supply the correct ingredients to each one to obtain its outputs. These machines replace manual crafting for their respective recipe lists, allowing for bulk and automated processing.
The Assembling Machine
The Assembling Machine is used for assembling complex components and intermediate goods. It has 17 recipes, many of which produce advanced electronic, mechanical, and plating items. For example, you can use it to create a
Basic Battery from a
Plastic Sheet, two
Electrum Ingots, and a
Steel Ingot. A variant recipe uses
Fluxite instead of one Electrum Ingot to yield two Basic Batteries at once.
Other notable outputs include
Blaze Rods from four
Blaze Powder, and
Books from three
Paper and any leather item. The machine can also produce
Budding Amethyst using two amethyst gems,
Enderic Compound, and an
Overcharged Crystal. For advanced machinery, you can craft
Processing Units,
Flux Gates,
Motors, and
Magnetic Coils here. Plating types like
Copper Reinforced Plating,
Iron Reinforced Plating, and
Nickel Reinforced Plating are also assembled in this machine, each requiring a
Plastic Sheet, two of the relevant metal ingots, and a
Steel Ingot.
The Assembling Machine also handles several organic and fuel-related recipes. You can turn a
Dark Oak Log with three
Glowstone into a
Shroomlight, or combine
Honeycomb with three
Biomass to make a
Slimeball. For solid fuel, mix three
Biomass with
Oak Planks to get
Solid Biofuel. The machine also produces
Superconductors, though the exact ingredients for that recipe are not listed here.
The Mixer
The Mixer is designed for combining dusts, gems, and fluids into alloys and refined ingots. It has 12 recipes. A core function is ore-to-ingot conversion: two
Copper Gems produce three
Copper Ingots, and the same ratio applies to Gold, Iron, Nickel, and Platinum gems. For alloying, combine a
Diamond with a
Nickel Ingot to make an
Adamant Ingot, or mix an
Adamant Ingot with a
Netherite Ingot to create a
Duratium Ingot. Other alloys include
Biosteel Ingot from
Raw Biopolymer and an
Iron Ingot,
Electrum Ingot from
Redstone Dust and a
Gold Ingot, and
Energite Ingot from
Fluxite and a
Nickel Ingot.
The Mixer also produces
Steel Ingots by combining
Coal Dust with an
Iron Ingot. For liquid processing, you can mix
Fluxite with 1000 mb of Still Oil to produce 1000 mb of Turbofuel, a high-grade fuel source.
The Press
The Press is a simpler machine with only one known recipe. It is used for pressing
Biomass into a denser form. The exact output of this pressing operation is not specified, but the machine is dedicated to this single transformation.
Additional Context: Crafting
Beyond these three machines, there is a broader category of Crafting that includes 245 recipes. These are standard manual crafting recipes and are not processed by the Assembling Machine, Mixer, or Press. For instance, you can manually craft an
Acceptor Addon using five
Plastic Sheets, one
Energite Ingot, two
Electrum Ingots, and one
Copper Reinforced Plating. This distinction is important: always check which machine or manual grid is required for your target item.
Practical Tips
- Feed each machine only the ingredients listed for its recipes; they do not share recipe lists.
- The Assembling Machine is your primary tool for high-tier components like
Ion Thrusters,
Reactor Walls, and
Carbon Plating Blocks. - Use the Mixer for bulk gem processing and alloy production to save manual crafting time.
- The Press is highly specialized—use it only for its single biomass-related recipe.
By organizing your production lines around these three machines, you can automate the creation of most intermediate and advanced materials needed for progression.
