How to Enable, Pin, and Manage Pinned Advancement Tabs

guide

Pinning advancement tabs lets you keep important advancement roots within easy reach instead of scrolling back to them each time. This guide covers turning pinning on, adding and removing pinned tabs, and the related settings that control how pinned tabs behave.

Enable Pinning

Pinning is controlled by the PinningEnabled setting in the Paginated Advancements Config. When this setting is on, you can pin advancement tabs. When it is off, pinning is unavailable, so turn it on first if you want to keep any tabs pinned.

Pin a Tab

A pinned tab is stored as a root advancement identifier. The PinnedTabs setting holds the list of these identifiers, and each entry in that list represents one tab you have chosen to pin.

To pin a tab, select the advancement tab you want to keep and add its root advancement identifier to the PinnedTabs list. Once an identifier is in that list, the tab appears among your pinned tabs.

If you need the exact identifier for a tab, turn on ShowAdvancementIDInDebugTooltip and hover over the advancement. The debug tooltip will display the advancement ID, which you can then use as the root advancement identifier for pinning. You can also copy an advancement ID to the clipboard; when you do, the interface shows copied to clipboard to confirm the action.

Unpin a Tab

To remove a pinned tab, take its root advancement identifier out of the PinnedTabs list. The tab then stops being pinned. Because the list is made up of identifiers, removing the correct entry is what unpins that specific tab.

Manage Pinned Tabs

The SpacingBetweenPinnedTabs setting controls how much space appears between your pinned tabs. Adjust it if your pinned tabs feel too crowded or too spread out.

Pinned tabs and regular horizontal tabs are spaced separately. The SpacingBetweenHorizontalTabs setting handles the spacing between horizontal tabs, while SpacingBetweenPinnedTabs handles the pinned ones. Tune each one to suit how you like the tab layout to look.

Two settings affect which tab is active when you open the interface:

  • SaveLastSelectedTab — when enabled, the last tab you selected is saved and restored the next time.
  • LastSelectedTab — stores the identifier of that last selected tab.

These work together: with saving turned on, the identifier recorded in LastSelectedTab is used to bring you back to the same tab.

Hover and Display Options

FadeOutBackgroundOnAdvancementHover fades the background slightly gray while you hover over an advancement, which can make the hovered content easier to read.

For debugging, ShowAdvancementIDInDebugTooltip shows the advancement ID inside the debug tooltip. There is also a control for showing debug info on advancement hover, which you can bind to the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu).

Reading Long Content

When a tab has more content than fits, a more... indicator appears, and you can scroll to see the rest. The MaxCriterionEntries setting limits how many advancement criterion entries are displayed, so raise or lower it depending on how much detail you want shown at once.
