Particle Interactions Config Guide: Tabs and Options Explained
The Particle Interactions Config is the settings screen where you control how this mod spawns particles for blocks, items, entities, fluids, and interactions. You reach it through the mod's own interface rather than through crafting, and every option you change takes effect according to the tab it lives in.
Opening the Config
Open the config from the mod's interface. Once it is open, you will see a set of tabs along the top, each covering a different area: general and compatibility settings, block overrides, block interactions and ambient effects, entity particles, item particles, and fluids. Select a tab to view its options.
General and Compatibility
This tab holds the mod's general config options. The General / Compatibility Options section contains two toggles aimed at visual consistency.
- Pixel consistent block / item particles makes the particles from mining blocks, placing blocks, and eating food line up with the pixel grid. If other mods or resource packs are giving you visual trouble, try turning this off.
- Particle Z-Fighting Fix stops particles from glitching against each other when you look downward. It works by nudging each particle upward a little when it lands on a block. It is not perfect, but it covers most cases. Turn it off if particles from other mods behave strangely or stop moving, or if another mod already handles the same problem.
Performance and Debug
A separate section covers options that may affect performance. Advanced particle physics controls whether certain particles use more detailed behaviour, such as sparks bouncing. Turning it off can give a small performance gain.
Below that sits a warning not to touch the remaining options unless someone told you to or you understand them.
- Toggle interaction debug logs writes information to the log when you interact with certain things. It switches itself off the next time you launch the game, and the screen confirms whether debug logs are enabled or disabled.
- Show particle emitter bounds draws the bounding boxes of particle emitters, marking the bottom north-west corner and the top south-east corner with particles. Like the log toggle, it turns itself off the next time you open the game.
How Tabs Apply Options
Tabs that list specific blocks or fluids apply their entries from top to bottom. If the same block appears in two overrides, only the first one that is not disabled takes effect. The same top-to-bottom rule applies to fluids listed in more than one particle type.
A Look at the Other Tabs
The remaining tabs organise the rest of the mod's behaviour.
- Block Particle Overrides replaces vanilla block particles and lets you choose when particles are emitted for the blocks you list.
- Block Interactions / Ambient handles particles from blocks in the world and from interacting with them, including placing, breaking, and mining, plus crafting sparks for anvils and grindstones.
- Entity Particles Config covers random ambient particles from entities and particles when an entity is hurt.
- Item Config covers using and interacting with items, including brushing blocks, lighting fires with flint and steel or a fire charge, stripping logs, tilling, and flattening.
- Fluid Config covers particles when fluids are placed.
Across these tabs you will find options such as Spawn when block placed, Spawn when block broken, Spawn when item used, Spawn when entity is damaged?, and Spawn when fluid placed, each paired with amounts, chances, or intensity settings. Read each option's description before changing it, since the wording explains exactly what it controls.
