Setting Up Particle Interactions for Item Use, Crafting, and Tool Actions

guide

Particle Interactions is a config-driven mod that controls when and how many particles appear during item use, crafting, brushing, and tool interactions. You operate it entirely through its interface and hotkeys rather than crafting anything. This guide covers the settings tied to using items, crafting at anvils and grindstones, brushing blocks, lighting fires, and working logs, dirt, and paths with axes, hoes, and shovels.

Reaching the Item and Crafting Options

Open the config screen titled Particle Interactions Config. Options are grouped under category separators, and the general settings sit alongside the interaction-specific ones. Under the item section you will find Spawn when item used, which turns item-use particles on or off. Amount of particles when item used sets how many appear per use. Particle Intensity controls how fast those particles travel once they spawn. A separate Particle spawn chance entry governs how likely particles are per tick, and Enable this particle? decides whether that particular particle type appears at all. There is also a Particle Override toggle for enabling an override.

For crafting, Amount of particles when item crafted sets the count produced when an item is crafted. Anvil and grindstone behaviour have their own entries: Anvil Crafting Sparks and Grindstone Crafting Sparks. The anvil option is noted as incomplete and subject to change in a later update. These are toggled in the interface or via the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu).

Brushing, Fire, and Tool Interactions

Brushing has its own block: Brushing Particles, with a mode selector called Brushing particle mode. The available modes are Vanilla-like, which uses the standard brushing particles unless the block has a Block Particle Override; Dust, which spawns a dust particle unless an override applies; and Disabled, which removes brushing particles altogether.

Fire lighting splits into two entries. One controls particles when you ignite a block with flint and steel, and the other when you ignite with a fire charge. Each lets you decide whether particles emit and how many spawn.

Tool actions each have a dedicated toggle: stripping a log with an axe, tilling with a hoe, and flattening with a shovel. Enable the one you want and adjust counts where offered.

Placing and Breaking Blocks

Spawn when block placed controls placement particles, with Max particles when block placed capping the count along each edge of the placed block. Spawn when block broken does the same for breaking, with Max particles when block broken capping the count along each axis.

Fluid Placement

Fluids have their own section. Spawn when fluid placed enables the effect, and Amount of particles when fluid placed sets how many appear inside the fluid. Fluid overrides apply from top to bottom, so a fluid listed twice uses only the higher entry.

General and Compatibility

Pixel consistent block / item particles makes mining, placing, and eating particles match the pixel grid; disable it if other mods or resource packs cause visual problems. Particle Z-Fighting Fix reduces particles glitching into each other when you look downward, working by nudging particles up slightly when they land; turn it off if other mods' particles misbehave or if another mod already handles the issue. Advanced particle physics allows effects such as sparks bouncing and can be disabled for a small performance gain.

Debug Options

Toggle interaction debug logs writes information when you interact with certain things and resets when you reopen the game. Show particle emitter bounds draws emitter bounding boxes using a particle at the bottom north-west and top south-east corners, also resetting on restart.
