Configuring Falling Leaves in Particular ✨ (Lay Flat and Right-Angle Snap)

guide

Particular ✨ exposes its falling-leaves options through its own interface and hotkeys rather than through crafting or item recipes. Everything below describes what each on-screen control changes and how you reach it.

Opening the Falling Leaves Settings

The Falling Leaves Settings group holds every option that affects how leaf particles behave as they drift down. Open the mod's interface and select that group to see its controls. If you prefer to bind a key to a specific action, assign it in the controls menu; the mod does not ship with a fixed key for these toggles, so use the corresponding hotkey you set yourself.

Laying Flat on the Ground

Lay Flat on the Ground changes what happens when a leaf reaches the floor. With it enabled, a leaf stops tumbling and comes to rest flat against the surface instead of staying upright or at an odd tilt. This is the switch to reach for if you want leaves to settle naturally on grass, dirt, or stone rather than hovering at an angle.

Turn it on when you want a calmer, more grounded look for leaf litter. Turn it off if you prefer leaves to keep their original orientation as they land.

Right-Angle Snapping

Right Angle Snap When Laying Flat builds on the previous option. When a leaf lies flat, this setting constrains its rotation to right angles rather than allowing any arbitrary heading. The result is a tidier arrangement where leaves align to a small set of orientations instead of pointing in every direction.

Because this option depends on the flat-laying behaviour, enable Lay Flat on the Ground first. If flat laying is off, snapping has nothing to act on. With both active, leaves settle flat and lock to right-angle rotations; with only flat laying active, leaves settle flat but keep free rotation.

Other Particle Settings in the Same Interface

The same interface carries a set of related particle controls. Each is a simple on/off toggle unless noted:

  • Frequency Modifiers — adjusts how often the affected particles appear.
  • Chest Bubbles from Soul Sand — controls the bubble particles produced by soul sand.
  • Water Drip Ripples — controls the ripple effect created by dripping water.
  • Cake Eating Particles — controls the particles shown while cake is being eaten.
  • Emissive Lava Drips — controls the glowing drip effect associated with lava.

Temperature Range

Two numeric fields set a temperature band:

  • Minimum Temperature
  • Maximum Temperature

These define the lower and upper bounds of the range the mod works with. Adjust them together so the minimum stays below the maximum.

Cave Dust Settings

The Cave Dust Settings group collects the options for cave dust particles. Within it sits Acceleration Change Chance, which governs how likely the acceleration of those particles is to change. Raising or lowering this value alters how erratic or steady the dust motion appears.

Practical Order of Operations

  1. Open the mod's interface and go to Falling Leaves Settings.
  2. Enable Lay Flat on the Ground if you want leaves to rest flat.
  3. Enable Right Angle Snap When Laying Flat if you also want their rotation restricted to right angles.
  4. Adjust Frequency Modifiers if the leaves appear too often or too rarely.
  5. Assign hotkeys in the controls menu for any of these actions you toggle frequently.

Keep the dependency in mind: snapping only matters while flat laying is active. If leaves still look wrong after enabling snapping, check that flat laying is on as well.
