Brewing, Potion Effects, and Workshop Mechanics in Pastel
Brewing Potions
The Potion Workshop is the central tool for brewing in Pastel, and it lets you replicate every vanilla potion you can make with a Brewing Stand, plus more. You use the same ingredients you normally would, but the process and results differ in important ways.
Instead of using Blaze Powder, the Workshop relies on liquid found in Mermaid’s Gems. This change means you do not need to fill bottles with water beforehand. The Workshop also allows you to use magical items as reagents, which opens up new ways to modify your brews.
Some brews are easier or harder to enhance than others. For example, certain potions do not take well to potency reagents, so you will need more than the usual amount to achieve the same increase in strength. Milky Resin is a useful ingredient for making a stronger blend, but it comes at the cost of duration.
You can also corrupt or alter effects with a Fermented Spider Eye. Adding one to specific brews will change the effect to Mining Fatigue, Hunger, or Bad Luck, depending on the base potion.
Using Reagents
Reagents are magical collectibles you can dissolve into the liquid inside Mermaid’s Gems. Rather than adding ingredients one by one as you would with a Brewing Stand, you mix everything at once. Each reagent has a unique effect on the potion.
The order you arrange reagents in does not matter. Flat bonuses are applied first, and percentage-based bonuses modify that value afterwards. You cannot stack the same reagent twice.
Reagent effects include:
- +100% duration
- +200% duration
- -50% potency
- -1 yield
- +1 potency
These modifiers let you fine-tune your potions beyond what a standard Brewing Stand can do.
Workshop Crafting
The Potion Workshop is designed for making powerful potions, but its adjustable switches and valves also make it useful for crafting other items. All workshop recipes that are not potions do not require reagents.
Some recipes consume XP from a
Knowledge Gem. One recipe will consume 10 XP, while another will consume 100 XP. The
Lava Sponge is a special ingredient in one recipe, and it will not be consumed during the process.
Potion Pendants
Carrying many potions is inconvenient, so Pastel offers two wearable alternatives.
The
Lesser Potion Pendant has a single small chamber that you can fill with a potion. While wearing it and carrying Ink on you, you receive the effects of that potion. Because the potion is not ingested, effects only work up to level III. To infuse it, place the pendant in the Potion Workshop where a Bottle would normally go. The stored effect is reapplied every 15 seconds. To clear its effect, put the pendant in a crafting grid.
The
Greater Potion Pendant works similarly but has three chambers, each able to hold a different potion. Because of the three-chamber design, it only supports level I effects. Use the Potion Workshop to infuse it in the same way, place it in a crafting grid to clear it, and its effects also reapply every 15 seconds.
Practical Notes
When brewing, remember that potency reagents may not work as well on certain brews, so plan accordingly if you want stronger effects. Also, the Workshop’s use of Mermaid’s Gem liquid changes the workflow, so you will not need to prepare water bottles in advance. Reagents give you control over duration, potency, and yield, but you cannot stack identical reagents, so choose your modifiers carefully.
