Physics Mod Guide: Mob Ragdolls, Joint Breaking, Blood, and Projectile Shattering
Physics Mod adds simulated mob deaths and destructible projectiles, and this guide covers how to configure them through the mod's settings screens.
Mob Death Physics
The mod can change how mobs behave when they die. Instead of a standard death animation, a mob can become a ragdoll, split into its individual parts, or crumble into pieces. These options live in the mob settings area of the interface, which you reach through Physics Settings.... Because the mob settings screen depends on joining a world to see dimensions, open it while you are actually in a game rather than from the main menu.
Two settings control how ragdolls come apart:
- Ragdoll Joint Break Force — governs the force needed for a ragdoll's joints to break apart.
- Ragdoll Joint Break Blood — governs blood appearing when joints break.
Both of these only take effect when the matching death type is active. Specifically, joint breaking requires the Ragdoll Breaking type to be enabled, and blood requires the Ragdoll Blood type to be enabled. If neither type is selected, changing these two sliders will not produce any visible result.
There is also a limit on how many ragdolls can exist in the world at one time. Lower this cap if you run large mob farms, since many simultaneous ragdolls can be heavy on performance. A reset option for the mob settings is available if you want to return everything to its starting values; confirming the reset will discard your current mob configuration.
Projectile Shattering
Snowballs, eggs, and enderpearls can break apart into pieces when they strike an object. This behavior is grouped under Projectile Settings, which is a Pro version feature — the screen is marked as requiring the Pro version.
Inside that screen, Lifetime (Projectiles) controls how long the resulting projectile fragments remain before disappearing. A reset option for projectile settings is also present, letting you restore the defaults for this category.
Related Settings Worth Knowing
Some general options affect how physics behaves around these features:
- Physics Max Objects sets the ceiling on how many physics objects can be active simultaneously, and it also covers the maximum thread count plus some particle settings.
- Physics CPU Threads changes how many threads the simulation uses. After adjusting it, reload the world for the change to take effect.
- A simulation speed control lets you slow physics down for slow motion. Be aware that high values are very CPU intensive, while low values delay how quickly player interaction registers with physics objects.
- Toggle All Physics turns the whole system on or off at once if you want to compare behavior with and without it.
Operating the Interface
Navigation is mouse-driven. Click anywhere to select an entry, and use the on-screen buttons to confirm actions such as resetting a category. Some prompts ask for confirmation before wiping a group of settings, so read the popup before accepting.
If a feature shows PRO VERSION REQUIRED!, it will not function until the Pro version is verified. Verification opens a website in your default browser after a confirmation popup; you then enter the resulting code into the mod. The Enter your Physics Mod Code option is where that code goes, and the button beside it retrieves the code for you.
For anything bound to a key rather than a button, use the corresponding hotkey and set it in the controls menu.
