Presence Footsteps Setup Guide: Sound Packs and Options
Presence Footsteps is a Minecraft utility mod that adds footstep audio, and this guide covers getting it running, turning on a sound pack, and reaching its options screen.
Enabling a Sound Pack
The mod ships with a Default Sound Pack. If no packs are active, the mod displays a notice that no sound packs were detected and directs you to the resource packs screen to enable one. That is the step that gets audio working: open the resource packs screen and turn on the pack you want to use. Until a pack is enabled, there is nothing for the mod to play.
Opening the Options Menu
The mod's settings live in a screen titled Presence Footsteps Options. Open it through the mod's own interface, or bind the corresponding hotkey in the controls menu if you prefer a key press. Everything below is adjusted from that screen.
Global Controls
- Global Volume sets the loudness of every footstep sound the mod produces. Its lowest setting is OFF. The screen explains that setting this to zero turns the mod off completely, so it doubles as a master switch.
- Disable All Sounds is a separate toggle that silences everything without touching the individual volume sliders.
Choosing Which Entities Are Heard
An entity setting decides whose footsteps are audible:
- Entities: Players + Hostiles — you hear both players and hostile mobs.
- Entities: Only Players — hostile mobs are excluded.
Volume Sliders
Each slider below controls one category of sound:
- Your own footsteps.
- Other players' footsteps, which applies when you are in multiplayer.
- Hostile enemies' footsteps.
- Animal footsteps.
- Sounds triggered by walking on wet blocks.
- Sounds triggered by moving through plants and tall grass.
Speed Attenuation
Speed Attenuation controls how much footstep loudness shifts while you are running. The value is added on top of the base volume, and the result scales with how fast you are moving. Start with a small number and adjust from there — a larger value makes the effect stronger and more obvious.
Stance
A stance option changes how the mod emulates movement:
- Auto selects a fitting stance based on Mine Little Pony. Without that mod present, it works the same as Biped.
- Bipedal emulates a two-legged, human-style walk.
- Quadrupedal emulates a four-legged walk.
- Avian emulates a two-legged walk with wings.
- Pegasus emulates a four-legged walk with wings.
Exclusive Mode
Exclusive Mode can be switched ON or OFF.
Update Status
The mod checks for updates and reports the result on screen. You may see a notice that an update is available, a message confirming you are up to date, or a line showing that a check is in progress. If a report cannot be produced, the screen shows a failure message.
Practical Order
Enable a sound pack first so there is audio to hear, then open Presence Footsteps Options. Set Global Volume to a comfortable level, pick the entity mode you want, and tune the individual sliders. If footsteps feel too dramatic while sprinting, lower Speed Attenuation. Use Disable All Sounds when you want silence without losing your settings.
