Presence Footsteps Volume Settings, Exclusive Mode, and How to Turn the Mod Off
Presence Footsteps gives you a full set of volume controls so you can decide exactly how much footstep audio you hear and from whom. Everything is handled through the mod's own options screen and its hotkeys, not through crafting or items.
Opening the Options
The settings live in the Presence Footsteps Options screen. Open it to reach the global volume control, the individual entity sliders, exclusive mode, and the master switch that turns the whole mod off.
Global Volume
Global Volume sets the loudness of every footstep sound the mod produces, taken as a whole. Its lowest position is OFF. The accompanying tooltip explains that this value applies across all presence footsteps audio and that setting it to zero is the way to silence the mod completely. If you want a single control that governs everything at once, this is it.
Per-Entity Volume Sliders
Below the global control are separate sliders, each affecting one category of sound source:
- Your own footsteps — controls the volume of the sounds you make yourself.
- Other players' footsteps — controls the volume of footsteps from other players, and only matters when you are in multiplayer.
- Enemies' footsteps — controls the volume of hostile mob footsteps.
- Animal footsteps — controls the volume of animal footsteps.
- Wet block sounds — controls the volume of sounds played when you walk on blocks that are wet.
- Plant and tall grass sounds — controls the volume of sounds played when you move through plants and tall grass.
There is also a Speed Attenuation setting, described as Speed Attenuation: with a running-related label. Its tooltip states that it determines how much footstep volume is allowed to change while running, that the value is added to the total volume and scales with your speed, that starting with a small value and adjusting from there is recommended, and that larger values make the effect stronger.
Entity Selection
The options include entity modes that decide which creatures the mod pays attention to:
- Players + Hostiles — covers players and hostile mobs.
- Only Players — limits the mod to players.
Stance Options
A stance setting determines the walking style the mod emulates. The available choices are:
- Auto — picks a suitable stance based on Mine Little Pony; without that mod present it acts the same as Bipedal.
- Bipedal — emulates a two-legged, human-style walk.
- Quadrupedal — emulates a four-legged walk.
- Pegasus — emulates a four-legged walk with wings.
- Avian — emulates a two-legged walk with wings.
Exclusive Mode
Exclusive Mode can be switched ON or OFF. Toggle it to change how the mod's audio behaves alongside other sound; the options screen shows its current state so you can confirm which setting is active.
Disabling the Mod
To stop the mod from producing any sound, use Disable All Sounds. The global volume tooltip gives the alternative route: bring Global Volume down to zero, which turns the mod off entirely. Either approach leaves the mod in place while removing its audio.
Sound Packs
The mod relies on a sound pack to have anything to play. If none is found, a message appears stating that no sound packs were detected and directing you to the resource packs screen to enable one before you begin. The Default Sound Pack is the standard choice.
Updates and Reports
The options area can show an An Update is Available notice, along with status text such as Checking for updates..., a message that an update is available for your Minecraft version, or You are up to date. If report generation fails, an error message reading Failed to generate report: appears.
Hotkeys
Actions like opening the options or toggling the mod are bound to hotkeys rather than fixed keys. Assign them yourself in the controls menu, then use the corresponding hotkey whenever you want to trigger that action.
