Quark Building Blocks: Stonecutting and the Block Palette
Quark is overwhelmingly a building mod: 789 blocks against 83 items across 872 pages. This guide covers how that palette is reached and which route is fastest.
The stonecutter carries a third of the mod
495 stonecutting recipes on 1.21.1 (516 on 1.20.1) sit alongside 977 crafting ones. That is an unusually high share for a mod without its own bench, and it means most stone variants convert directly rather than needing ingredients gathered again.
In practice: carry a stonecutter to the build site. Switching a wall from one variant to another costs a click instead of a return trip, and with this many variants registered you will change your mind often.
The 1.20.1 build has more blocks
Both large categories are larger on the older line — 1,039 crafting and 516 stonecutting recipes against 977 and 495. A palette assembled on 1.20.1 may include variants the 1.21.1 build does not register, which is worth knowing before porting a build between versions.
Eighty-three items in a mod this size
The item count tells you what Quark is not. With 83 items against 789 blocks, almost nothing here is equipment or ingredients — the items that do exist mostly serve the blocks.
Runes are the exception
Smithing Rune at 18 recipes on both builds is Quark's only custom recipe type, and it is cosmetic rather than structural. It is also the one part of the mod that does not follow the "use vanilla stations" rule everything else obeys.
Furnace routes are minimal
Smelting holds 13 recipes and Blasting 6 or 7. If a block is not appearing where you expect, the stonecutter is the place to look before the furnace — the furnace barely features in this mod.
Nothing is gated
Quark generates no structures and defines no progression. Every block is available the moment you have its base material, so the mod is a palette rather than a ladder. The difficulty is choosing, not unlocking.
Version parity, or the lack of it
The two builds are 4.1-482 on NeoForge (1.21.1) and 4.0-462 on Forge (1.20.1), and their recipe counts differ by about 80 entries across the two main categories. Unlike most mods on this wiki, a tutorial written for the newer build may reference less than the older one holds.
