Quark Runes: The Mod's Only Custom Recipe Type
Quark deliberately avoids adding machines. This guide covers the one exception and what the rest of its recipe list looks like as a result.
Eighteen rune recipes, and nothing else is bespoke
Smithing Rune carries 18 recipes on both builds and is the only recipe type Quark defines for itself. Every other category — crafting, stonecutting, smelting, blasting, campfire cooking, smoking and smithing transform — belongs to vanilla.
Runes being identical across versions is convenient: unlike the mod's two large categories, nothing about them changed in the port.
Why that matters for a pack
A mod that adds 789 blocks while defining a single custom recipe type is unusually low-friction. There is no machine competing for space in your base, no power system, and no new bench to build before the mod becomes usable.
The trade is that Quark cannot express anything a vanilla station cannot. Everything it adds has to fit crafting, cutting or cooking — which is exactly why it feels like part of the base game.
The single Smithing Transform recipe
One vanilla smithing recipe sits alongside the 18 runes. In a mod with nearly a thousand crafting recipes, that lone entry is the only conventional upgrade path.
The two tiny exclusion categories
Mixed Exclusion holds 4 recipes on 1.21.1 and none on 1.20.1; Exclusion holds 1 on 1.20.1 and none on 1.21.1. Five recipes between them, split across builds — these are configuration plumbing rather than content, and neither is something to plan around.
Everything else is scale
Crafting at 977 recipes on 1.21.1 (1,039 on 1.20.1) and Stonecutting at 495 (516) make up over 99 percent of the mod. Both are larger on the older build, which is worth restating because it is the reverse of almost every other mod on this wiki.
Furnace work is minimal
13 smelting recipes on both builds, 7 blasting on 1.21.1 and 6 on 1.20.1, and a single campfire and smoking recipe each. Quark adds almost nothing that needs cooking.
Scale
872 pages across 789 blocks and 83 items, with no worldgen structures.
