Rat Housing and Decoration Guide

guide

Overview

This guide covers the housing and decorative blocks available for rats, including hammocks, igloos, tubes, and related items. Each structure serves a distinct purpose and can be crafted with specific materials.

White Rat Hammock

The White Rat Hammock is a comfortable resting spot for your rats. To craft one, arrange two pieces of string, one Cheese, and three blocks of White Wool in a shaped pattern. The hammock can also be recolored by combining it with any white dye in a shapeless recipe, which simply returns another White Rat Hammock.

White Rat Igloo

The White Rat Igloo provides an enclosed shelter. Craft it using five pieces of Raw Plastic in a shaped recipe. Like the hammock, you can combine the igloo with white dye in a shapeless crafting grid to produce another White Rat Igloo, allowing you to keep its color consistent if needed.

White Rat Tube

The White Rat Tube acts as a tunnel or play structure. It requires six pieces of Raw Plastic in a shaped crafting pattern. To recolor or refresh the tube, place eight White Rat Tubes alongside white dye in a shaped recipe, which yields a single White Rat Tube. Note that this recipe consumes all eight tubes, so only use it when you have spares.

Rat Cage

The Rat Cage is a primary housing block for keeping rats contained. Craft it with five Iron Bars, two Iron Ingots, and one wheat crop. The iron bars form the structure, while the wheat serves as a lure or bedding material. This cage is essential for managing multiple rats in a confined space.

Rat Breeding Lantern

The Rat Breeding Lantern encourages rat reproduction when placed nearby. To craft it, combine one piece of string, three red dye, and one Redstone Lamp in a shaped pattern. The red dye and redstone lamp give the lantern its distinct glow, which signals breeding conditions to your rats.

Rat Attractor

The Rat Attractor draws wild rats to a specific location. Craft it using four Redstone Dust, one Lantern, and one Block of Cheese in a shaped arrangement. The cheese acts as bait, while the redstone and lantern provide the mechanism and light needed to lure rats toward the block.

Usage Tips

  • Place Rat Cages in a dedicated area to keep your rat population organized and prevent them from wandering.
  • Use White Rat Hammocks and White Rat Igloos inside or near cages to give rats comfortable spots for rest and shelter.
  • Connect multiple White Rat Tubes to create an elaborate play network for your rats, encouraging exercise.
  • Position a Rat Breeding Lantern near your cages when you want to increase your rat numbers, but remove it if you need to control population growth.
  • Set up a Rat Attractor away from your main base to gather wild rats, then guide them into cages or breeding areas.

Decoration and Color

All white-themed items—hammocks, igloos, and tubes—can be dyed using the appropriate dye colors if you wish to customize their appearance. The white dye recipes listed above are the default option, but other dyes may work similarly for personalizing your rat housing setup. Keep in mind that dyeing a tube requires eight tubes at once, so plan your crafting accordingly.

By combining these blocks, you can build a functional and visually appealing habitat for your rats, whether you are keeping a few pets or managing a large breeding operation.
