Managing Resourcepack Load Timing and Replacing the (Neo)Forge Loading Overlay

guide

Remove Reloading Screen is a utility mod that changes how the game presents resource reloading, and it also gives you control over when the server is told that your resourcepack status has changed. Everything below is handled through the mod's own interface and its hotkeys rather than through any crafting recipe.

Overlay Visibility

The hideOverlays setting decides which overlays get suppressed while a reload is happening. A tooltip attached to this option warns that it may cause epilepsy, so treat it with care if flashing visuals are a concern for you.

If you would rather keep a faint trace of the overlay on screen instead of removing it entirely, turn on miniRender. This draws a reduced, hidden-style version of the overlay rather than nothing at all.

blockOverlay goes further and stops the overlay from being used at all. Its tooltip tells you to use it at your own risk, so it is the most aggressive of the visibility options.

Fixing a Flooded or Lingering Overlay

When the default overlay covers the window in a wash of color, usually mostly black, enable enableScissor. Its tooltip explains that this option trims the rendering of the default overlay, which is the intended fix for that problem.

removeOverlayAtEnd controls whether the overlay disappears once loading finishes. Its tooltip poses the question of infinite loading, which points at situations where the overlay refuses to go away.

reInitScreen rebuilds the screen you were on after a reload completes. Its tooltip notes that turning this off may get rid of a hang-up that occurs once the reload is done, so it is worth disabling if you notice that stall.

What Appears During Reloading

The type setting selects what gets shown while reloading. If you pick the TEXT option, the reloadText field supplies the words that appear. The animationSpeed setting adjusts how fast the splash animation plays.

Handling Failures

resetResources clears resources when a load fails. doubleLoad takes a second attempt at loading resources if an error shows up. Together these give you a way to recover from a bad load without restarting.

Server Resourcepack Status Timing

earlyPackStatusSend sends the status about the server resourcepack ahead of time. Its tooltip explains why this matters: certain servers deliberately wait for the player to finish loading resources, and because of that delay the game can end up displayed incorrectly. The example given is being underground while resources were reloading. Sending the status early avoids that mismatch.

Replacing the (Neo)Forge Loading Overlay

skipForgeOverlay swaps out the (Neo)Forge loading overlay and puts the vanilla one in its place. Use this when you want the standard overlay rather than the modded one during loading.

Working With Hotkeys

The mod is operated through its interface and through hotkeys. Where a control has a dedicated key, that key is configured in the controls menu. To use any action described here, open the controls menu and assign the corresponding hotkey, or change the one already bound. No key is set for you by default beyond what the controls menu shows, so check there before assuming a binding exists.

A Practical Order

Start with skipForgeOverlay if the (Neo)Forge overlay is what bothers you. Then set type and, if needed, reloadText and animationSpeed to shape what shows during a reload. Use enableScissor if color floods the window. Reach for blockOverlay only when you accept the risk its tooltip mentions. Finally, enable earlyPackStatusSend when a server seems to be waiting on your resourcepack status and the game looks wrong afterward.
