Embeddium Extra: Settings, Features, and the Recommended Companion Mod

guide

Embeddium Extra is an add-on for Embeddium that brings most of OptiFine's visual extras to the mod, along with bug fixes and performance options that Embeddium does not yet offer. It deliberately handles the kind of features that do not belong in Embeddium itself, keeping the core mod focused while still giving players control over particles, animations, fog, and on-screen overlays.

How to Reach the Settings

Embeddium Extra is operated entirely through its interface and hotkeys — there is nothing to craft. Its options live alongside Embeddium's video options, where you can toggle individual features on or off. Some actions are bound to hotkeys rather than menu toggles; for those, use the corresponding hotkey, which you can set in the controls menu.

What You Can Control

The settings fall into several broad groups.

Particles. A large portion of the mod is a long list of particle toggles. Each one governs whether a specific effect is processed, covering everything from campfire smoke and dripping dripstone to sculk sensor triggers, trial spawner detection, and biome-specific particles in soul sand valleys, crimson forests, warped forests, and basalt deltas. If a particle type is enabled, it is processed; if not, it is skipped.

Animations. Separate toggles control whether fire, lava, portal, sculk sensor, water, and general animations are processed, plus block animations and piston extending animations.

Rendering. You can enable or disable rendering for armor stands, beacon beams, item frames, paintings, enchanting table books, rain and snow, the sky, stars, the sun and moon, and player name tags. Related options let you change sky and biome colors based on the biome, show item frame name tags, limit beacon beam height to the world maximum, and control cloud render distance and cloud height.

Fog. Fog behavior is adjustable in several ways. You can pick how fog is modified, adjust the fog start multiplier, and set fog distance either per dimension or for all dimensions at once. Multi Dimension Fog switches between per-dimension sliders and a single slider, and changing it requires leaving and re-entering the menu before the sliders update. Values run from vanilla fog settings at 0, through 1–32 for a distance in chunks, up to 33 for maximum distance, which effectively disables fog.

Overlays and popups. The overlay can show FPS and coordinates, with an option for extended FPS information (max, average, and minimum). You can choose which screen corner the overlay appears in and adjust its contrast between plain text, a background, or shadowed text. Popups for advancements, recipes, tutorials, and system messages can each be turned on or off. A steady debug HUD refresh option refreshes the debug HUD at an interval you set in ticks.

Other options. These include advanced item tooltips showing an item's identifier and durability, disabling camera lerp while sneaking, preventing vanilla shaders from loading, using a fast random function for block rendering, disabling lighting updates (only advisable if you understand the consequences), and reducing resolution on macOS retina displays, which requires a game restart. Fullscreen resolution is also configurable. V-Sync can be allowed to swap mid-frame for better responsiveness, though this may cause issues with some GPU drivers.

Embeddium Extra's own interface includes a suggestion to add Reese's Embeddium Options. Because the feature list has grown so large, it no longer fits properly within Embeddium's video options, so pairing the two mods is highly recommended to keep everything manageable.
