Shulker Box Tooltip Settings for Container Previews, Tooltips, and Loot Tables
Shulker Box Tooltip adds container previews and configurable tooltips to Minecraft, and this guide explains what each setting does and how to operate it through the interface and hotkeys.
Opening and Locking Previews
When you hover over a container stack, you can open a preview of its contents. Two separate actions exist for this. The preview key opens the standard preview window, while the full preview key opens the complete preview window. Assign both in the controls menu; no default keys are assumed here.
While a preview is showing, holding the lock key keeps the tooltip pinned in place so it does not disappear as you move the cursor. Again, set this in the controls menu.
A related option swaps the two preview modes. When enabled, pressing the preview key instead brings up the full preview, reversing the normal behavior of the two keys.
Tooltip Type and Display Options
The tooltip setting controls which tooltip style appears. Vanilla shows the standard tooltip listing the first five items. Modded uses the mod's own tooltip. None disables the tooltip entirely.
Several options shape how previews look:
- Colored Preview Window controls whether the preview window uses color.
- The theme setting chooses the visual style: ShulkerBoxTooltip uses the mod's default appearance, while Vanilla imitates the look of vanilla bundle previews.
- The position setting places the preview window. Inside puts it within the item's tooltip. Outside places it beyond the tooltip and shifts it based on screen edges. Outside (top) pins it to the top of the tooltip, and Outside (bottom) pins it to the bottom.
- An always-on option makes the preview appear continuously, whether or not the preview key is held.
- Key hints in the container's tooltip can be toggled on or off.
- short item counts abbreviates large counts inside compact previews.
Shulker Box and Generic Container Settings
A dedicated toggle turns the shulker box preview on or off. Generic Container Preview, when enabled, gives a preview to items carrying container data that are not otherwise supported, treating them like shulker boxes.
Hide Shulker Box Lore removes custom text from shulker box tooltips. This is useful when a server-side preview datapack conflicts with the mod.
Compact Preview NBT Behavior
In compact mode, items sharing an ID but differing in component data can be handled three ways:
- Ignored disregards component data entirely.
- First Item treats every item as though it carried the same components as the first one.
- Separate keeps items with differing component data apart.
A related setting caps how many items appear in a single row, though it may not apply to modded containers.
Loot Table Info Type
This option shows information about an item's current loot table when one exists. It only appears when the tooltip type is set to Modded. Hide shows nothing and is the default. Simple indicates whether the stack uses a loot table. Advanced reveals which loot table the item uses.
Server and Client Integration
Server integration lets the client send packets so servers can provide extra preview data, such as ender chest previews. The ender chest sync type setting changes how ender chest contents synchronize: None blocks clients from previewing their ender chest, Active syncs contents whenever they change, and Passive syncs when the client opens a preview.
A server-side toggle lets servers share extra container information with clients running the mod; disabling it turns off the options beneath it. Note that on multiplayer, changing these from your menu does not alter the server's own configuration.
Configuration Notes
The configuration screen is titled ShulkerBoxTooltip Configuration. If you try to leave while editing, a confirm prompt asks whether you want to quit and discard changes, warning that your changes will be lost. Some modifications display a restart required notice, meaning the change takes effect only after restarting. Numeric fields such as row limits must be greater than zero, and color entries reject invalid color codes.
