Shulker Box Tooltip Preview Window Settings Guide

guide

Shulker Box Tooltip gives you a configurable preview window that shows what's inside a container before you open it. This guide covers the options that control how that window looks, where it appears, which visual theme it uses, and how compact mode behaves.

Opening and Locking the Preview

When you hover over a container stack, the preview key action opens a small preview window. A separate full preview key action opens the complete preview window instead. Holding the lock action while previewing a stack keeps the tooltip pinned in place. Each of these actions is bound to the corresponding hotkey, which you can assign in the controls menu.

There is also a setting that makes the preview appear at all times, without any key being held. One more option swaps the two modes, so the preview key opens the full preview rather than the small one.

Position of the Preview Window

The position setting decides where the preview window sits relative to the item's tooltip:

  • Inside places it within the tooltip itself.
  • Outside places it beyond the tooltip and shifts it as the screen edges get close.
  • Outside (top) pins it to the top of the tooltip.
  • Outside (bottom) pins it to the bottom of the tooltip.

Theme and Colors

Two themes are available. ShulkerBoxTooltip uses the mod's own default appearance. Vanilla copies the look of the bundle preview found in the base game.

The Colored Preview Window option decides whether the preview window is colored at all. If coloring is on but a color value is entered incorrectly, the interface reports an invalid color code.

Tooltip Type and Key Hints

The tooltip setting offers three choices: Vanilla shows only the first five items, Modded uses the mod's own tooltip, and None shows no tooltip. A related option controls whether key hints appear inside the container's tooltip.

Compact Mode

Compact mode groups items together, and several options shape how it works.

The compact preview nbt behavior setting handles items that share an ID but carry different component data. Ignored merges them without regard to component data. First Item treats every item as though it carried the first item's components. Separate keeps items with differing component data apart.

The maximum items per row can be adjusted, though it may not apply to containers added by other mods. The short item counts option shortens large quantities shown in compact previews.

Additional Display Options

Hide Shulker Box Lore removes custom text from shulker box tooltips, which is useful when a server-side preview datapack conflicts with the mod.

Loot Table Info Type shows details about an item's current loot table when present, and only appears when the tooltip type is set to Modded. Hide shows nothing, Simple indicates whether a loot table is in use, and Advanced names the loot table.

Server and Client Integration

Server Integration lets the client send packets so servers can supply extra preview data, such as ender chest contents. The ender chest sync type setting controls how that data is synchronized: None blocks clients from previewing their ender chest, Active syncs whenever the contents change, and Passive syncs when a client opens a preview.

Client Integration options are meant to be set by servers. Changing them on a multiplayer server from this menu does not alter the server's own configuration. Turning off the main option disables everything beneath it.

Generic Container Preview makes items carrying container data that aren't explicitly supported still show a preview, treating them like shulker boxes.

Saving Your Changes

The configuration screen is titled ShulkerBoxTooltip Configuration. If you try to leave while editing, a confirm prompt asks whether to quit and discard changes, with a warning that your changes will be lost. Some modifications display a restart required notice, meaning the change takes effect only after restarting.
