Block Entity Culling
Overview
Block Entity Culling in Sodium Extras hides block entities once they pass a set distance from the player, using separate horizontal and vertical limits to control what stays visible. The horizontal setting removes entities beyond a chosen number of blocks, which can greatly boost performance in areas packed with modded machines, while the vertical setting hides entities below a certain depth to help performance above caves and is meant to be set lower than the horizontal value. The feature also offers an option that swaps chest models for a static version like a normal block, sacrificing the chest animation for better performance in chest-heavy areas, though it has no effect when flywheel is installed and running a batching or instancing backend. A similar option replaces the dynamic bed model with a static one, improving performance and allowing custom models to be used through resource packs.
