All Spawn Biomes and Island Structures Explained
Spawn adds a set of island biomes, each with its own climate reading and its own mix of creatures and monsters. Every biome in this set shares the same temperate climate at a temperature of 0.8, so the differences between them come down to terrain, wildlife, and the hostile mobs that appear there. Below is a breakdown of each biome and the island structures tied to it.
Ant Gardens
The Ant Gardens is a temperate biome with a temperature of 0.8. It has the widest monster list of the group: spider, zombie, zombie villager, skeleton, creeper, and slime can all spawn here. Its creature spawns are sheep, pig, chicken, cow, horse, and donkey, making it the most varied biome for passive animals as well.
Cold Island
The Cold Island is a temperate biome with a temperature of 0.8. Its hostile spawns are limited to spider crab and drowned. No creature spawns are listed for this biome.
Dodo Island
The Dodo Island is a temperate biome with a temperature of 0.8. The only spawn listed for it is the turtle, which appears as a creature spawn. No monster spawns are recorded for this biome.
Sandy Island
The Sandy Island is a temperate biome with a temperature of 0.8. Monsters that can appear here are drowned and skeleton. The turtle is its creature spawn.
Tide Pool
The Tide Pool is a temperate biome with a temperature of 0.8. Its monster spawns are spider crab and drowned. No creature spawns are listed for this biome.
Tropical Island
The Tropical Island is a temperate biome with a temperature of 0.8. Hostile mobs here are drowned and barbed. The turtle is the creature spawn for this biome.
Comparing the Biomes
A few patterns stand out when the six biomes are placed side by side.
- Every biome in this set is temperate, with a temperature of 0.8.
- Turtle appears as a creature spawn on Dodo Island, Sandy Island, and Tropical Island.
- Drowned appear as monster spawns on Cold Island, Sandy Island, Tide Pool, and Tropical Island.
- Spider crab appear as monster spawns on Cold Island and Tide Pool.
- Ant Gardens is the only biome in the set with a full roster of overworld-style monsters and farm animals.
- Dodo Island is the only biome here with no monster spawns listed at all.
Picking a Biome
If you want a biome with plenty of passive animals and a broad range of hostile mobs, Ant Gardens covers the most ground. If you would rather deal with a narrow set of threats, Dodo Island lists only turtle and no monsters. The coastal biomes — Cold Island, Sandy Island, Tide Pool, and Tropical Island — lean toward aquatic threats, with drowned showing up in most of them and spider crab or barbed filling out the rest.
