Catching and Preparing Fish, Clams, and Seafood Dishes
Catching and preparing fish, clams, and seafood dishes starts with a
Casting Net, the tool used to gather your raw ingredients. Before you can cook anything, you need to craft this net and understand how the rest of the seafood chain fits together, from clams and shell fragments to sliced fish and finished sandwiches.
Crafting the Casting Net
The
Casting Net is made with a shaped recipe. You combine
Shell Fragments with six pieces of
String. Gather your string first, then secure the shell fragments, since both are required before the net can be assembled.
Getting Shell Fragments from Clams
Shell Fragments come from clams. The recipe is shapeless, meaning the arrangement of ingredients does not matter. Placing a single
Clam into the crafting grid converts it into
Shell Fragments. These fragments then feed directly into the
Casting Net recipe, so clams are the starting point for the entire tool.
Cutting Fish into Slices
Once you have fish, several of them can be cut down into slices. Each of these is a cutting conversion:
Bluefish cuts into
Bluefish Slice.
Herring cuts into
Herring Slice.
Tuna Chunk cuts into
Tuna Slice.
Note that tuna behaves differently from the other two. You do not cut a whole tuna directly; the
Tuna Chunk is what gets cut into a
Tuna Slice. Keep that distinction in mind when sorting your catch.
Making a Tuna Sandwich
The
Tuna Sandwich has two shapeless recipes, giving you flexibility depending on what you have on hand.
Bread plus
Cooked Tuna Chunk produces a
Tuna Sandwich.
Bread plus
Cooked Tuna Chunk plus two cabbage items from the #c:foods/cabbage tag also produces a
Tuna Sandwich.
Because both recipes are shapeless, the position of each ingredient in the grid is irrelevant. The second recipe simply adds cabbage on top of the base bread-and-tuna combination. Remember that the tuna must be cooked before it goes into the sandwich.
Putting the Chain Together
The full sequence runs from raw materials to a finished meal. Clams become
Shell Fragments, which combine with
String to form the
Casting Net. Fish you obtain can be cut into slices:
Bluefish into
Bluefish Slice,
Herring into
Herring Slice, and
Tuna Chunk into
Tuna Slice. For a complete dish, cook a
Tuna Chunk and combine it with
Bread, optionally adding cabbage, to make a
Tuna Sandwich.
Quick Reference
Casting Net:
Shell Fragments + six
String, shaped.
Shell Fragments: one
Clam, shapeless.
Bluefish Slice: cut from
Bluefish.
Herring Slice: cut from
Herring.
Tuna Slice: cut from
Tuna Chunk.
Tuna Sandwich:
Bread +
Cooked Tuna Chunk, shapeless.
Tuna Sandwich (with cabbage):
Bread +
Cooked Tuna Chunk + two #c:foods/cabbage, shapeless.
Work through these steps in order: collect clams for fragments, craft the net with string, cut your fish into slices as needed, and cook tuna chunks before assembling sandwiches. Each stage depends on the one before it, so plan your gathering around the recipes you intend to make.
