Species Structures: Dig Sites, Coops and the Spectralibur Chamber

guide

This guide covers where each Species structure generates and what the mod's numbers imply about its creatures.

The four structures by rarity

An eight-fold spread across only four structures is unusual. Most mods cluster their structures into tiers; here each one sits at its own distinct rarity, which makes the set read as a progression rather than a menu.

Why the low separations matter

Every one of the four has a separation well below its spacing — 80 and 15, 64 and 16, 32 and 8, 10 and 5, all roughly a 4-to-1 or 5-to-1 ratio. Nothing here is forced onto an even grid.

The practical effect: these can clump. After finding a Libra, searching the surrounding area is worthwhile rather than pointless, because the settings permit a neighbour far closer than the spacing suggests.

The Dig Site is the entry point

At spacing 10 with separation 5, the Paleontology Dig Site is the densest thing the mod places — roughly three times more common than the Wraptor Coop and eight times more than the Spectralibur Chamber.

If you have played with Species installed and seen one of its structures, it was almost certainly this.

What the recipe list says

28 crafting recipes and 1 smelting recipe against 53 items. Around half the item list has no recipe, so those items drop from creatures.

There are no stonecutting recipes, which for a mod with 26 blocks means the blocks are individual additions rather than a palette with variants.

No processing chain

One smelting recipe is the whole furnace surface. There is no ore-and-refine loop, no machine and no bespoke bench — Species is a creature mod that happens to include a handful of crafts.

3.5 on Forge, 1.20.1 only.

Comparing this to other creature mods

For context, most creature mods on this wiki place their common structure somewhere between 20 and 26 and their rarest past 45. Species runs from 10 to 80, which is both denser at the bottom and rarer at the top than the norm.

That widened range is why the four structures read as a ladder: there is no ambiguity about which one you are ready for.

What the block count rules out

Twenty-six blocks, no stonecutting recipes and a single smelting recipe. There is no ore to refine, no variant palette to build with, and no processing step of any kind. Every block is an individual addition tied to a creature or a structure.

Version
