The Potion Workshop

The Potion Workshop is the central station for all advanced brewing in Spectrum. Unlike a standard Brewing Stand, this device uses the liquid found inside Mermaid's Gems as its base fuel instead of Blaze Powder. This change unlocks two major conveniences: you can employ magical items as extra brewing components, and you no longer need to pre-fill glass bottles with water.

The Workshop features several slots for reagents. You can place all your ingredients into the liquid at once rather than adding them one by one. Each reagent can only be used a single time per brew, but you can combine multiple different reagents in one session to stack their effects.

Brewing Standard Potions

Every vanilla potion remains craftable here using the same core ingredients you would normally use. The process mirrors familiar recipes, though some potions respond differently to enhancement attempts.

Certain brews show resistance to strength-boosting reagents. For these stubborn mixtures, you must add a larger quantity of potency reagent than usual to achieve the same increase in power. This applies to specific potion types, so expect inconsistent results when trying to amplify their effects.

Using Milky Resin as an ingredient creates a blend that accepts potency changes more readily, but this comes at the cost of reduced duration.

Corrupted versions are also possible. Adding a Fermented Spider Eye to the right base can shift the outcome to Mining Fatigue, Hunger, or Bad Luck, depending on what you started with.

Working with Reagents

Reagents are the key to customizing your brews. The Workshop accepts multiple reagent types simultaneously, letting you apply several improvements in one go. Available reagent effects include:

  • Extending duration by 100%
  • Increasing potency by one level
  • Turning the brew into a splash potion
  • Creating a lingering potion (requires Gunpowder as an additional reagent)
  • Producing tipped arrows if you supply arrows instead of bottles

More advanced magical collectibles can serve as complex reagents, granting additional bonuses. When mixing these, the order of addition does not matter. Flat bonuses are calculated first, and percentage-based adjustments modify that resulting value afterward.

Some complex reagents produce special outcomes:

  • Converting beneficial effects into their harmful counterparts
  • Reducing duration by 25%
  • Boosting potency strongly at first, but causing it to fade rapidly over time (this fails on instant-effect potions)
  • Creating lingering potions
  • Increasing duration by 200%
  • Cutting potency by 50%
  • Reducing the number of doses produced by one

Potion Pendants

Carrying many potion bottles is impractical. The Lesser Potion Pendant solves this by storing a single potion in a small internal chamber. While worn, and as long as you have Ink in your inventory, you continuously receive the stored potion's effect. The effect refreshes every 15 seconds. Because the potion is not consumed, effects only function up to level III.

To fill the pendant, place it in the Potion Workshop where a bottle would normally sit. To empty it, place the pendant into a crafting grid.

The Greater Potion Pendant operates on the same principle but contains three separate chambers. Each chamber can hold a different potion, allowing three effects at once. However, because the storage is divided, this version only supports level I effects. It also requires the Potion Workshop for infusion and a crafting grid to clear its contents, with effects reapplying every 15 seconds.
