Stardew Fishing: A Minigame, Not a Content Pack
Stardew Fishing replaces vanilla fishing with a skill-based minigame. This guide covers what it registers and what it does not.
Seventeen items, no blocks
17 pages, 17 items, no blocks at all. Nothing here is placed — the mod's content is carried gear and the fishing behaviour itself.
Only six recipes
6 crafting recipes on 1.21.1 and just 1 on 1.20.1. Against 17 items that leaves most of the item list without a recipe, meaning those items are caught or found rather than made.
For a fishing mod that is exactly right: the fish are the content, and you do not craft fish.
The version gap is five recipes
Six against one is a six-fold difference in the crafting list, even though both builds are version 3.7 — NeoForge on 1.21.1, Forge on 1.20.1.
Identical version numbers with different recipe counts is worth flagging: you cannot tell these builds apart by version string, and a guide written for 1.21.1 will reference craftable gear that the older line does not have.
No structures
The mod generates no worldgen. There is no fishing spot to locate and no structure to find — the change applies to water you already have.
What it actually changes
The mod replaces the vanilla fishing wait-and-click with an active minigame, which is a behavioural change rather than a registry one. That is why a 17-item mod can meaningfully alter how a whole activity plays.
Where to start
Fish. There is nothing to build toward and, on 1.20.1, essentially nothing to craft first — the mod is active from the moment you cast.
On 1.21.1, check the six crafting recipes early, since some of that gear likely improves the minigame itself.
What to expect
A skill-based replacement for an activity that was previously passive, plus a modest set of catchable items. No blocks, no progression tree, no dependency, and nothing that competes with another mod in a pack.
Why the item count outruns the recipe count
Seventeen items against six recipes means eleven of them have no craft. In a fishing mod those are the catches — fish and finds that come out of the water rather than off a bench.
That ratio is the honest way to read any mod whose theme is gathering: a low recipe count is not a small mod, it is a mod whose content arrives by doing the activity.
The version difference restated
Both builds report 3.7, yet 1.21.1 carries six crafting recipes and 1.20.1 carries one. Five craftable items exist on the newer line and nowhere on the older, and no version string will tell you that.
