Hiding Status Effect Bars with Maximum Remaining Duration and Minimum Beacon Effect Age
Status Effect Bars displays your active effects as bars, and two thresholds let you hide bars you don't want to see. The Maximum Remaining Duration setting hides bars for effects that still have a long time left, while the Minimum Beacon Effect Age setting hides bars for beacon effects that are still fresh. Both thresholds are configured in the Status Effect Bars Config screen.
Maximum Remaining Duration
Maximum Remaining Duration controls a cutoff based on how much time an effect has left. Its value is measured in ticks. Any effect whose remaining duration is above that number of ticks has its bar hidden.
This is useful when you only care about effects that are close to running out. Set the threshold to a small number of ticks and long-lasting effects disappear from the display, leaving only the ones that need your attention soon. Raise the threshold and more bars become visible again, since fewer effects sit above the cutoff.
To operate it, open the Status Effect Bars Config screen and set the Maximum Remaining Duration value to the tick count you want to use as the cutoff. The setting takes effect on the bars immediately; there is nothing to craft and no separate toggle to enable.
Minimum Beacon Effect Age
Minimum Beacon Effect Age works in the opposite direction, and it applies specifically to beacon effects. Its value is also measured in ticks, but it describes the age of the effect rather than its remaining time. Any beacon effect whose age is under that number of ticks has its bar hidden.
This lets you suppress the bars for beacon effects during the first moments after they appear. Set the threshold higher and newly applied beacon effects stay hidden for longer; set it lower and their bars show up sooner. Effects that are not beacon effects are not governed by this setting.
To operate it, open the Status Effect Bars Config screen and set the Minimum Beacon Effect Age value to the tick count you want to use as the cutoff.
Combining the Two Thresholds
The two settings filter different effects, so they can be used together. Maximum Remaining Duration removes bars for effects with a long time remaining, and Minimum Beacon Effect Age removes bars for beacon effects that are still young. An effect that trips either condition is hidden by that condition.
Related Display Settings
The config screen also holds settings that control how the bars look and where they sit, which matter once you have decided which bars to show.
- Method of determining colors chooses how bar colors are picked. The available methods are Effect, which uses the effect's particle color; Category, which uses the effect category's color; and Custom, which uses colors set in the fields below.
- Custom-mode-only colors are the color fields that apply when the color method is set to Custom. One of these fields is Benificial Bar Color, the color used for a beneficial bar.
- Align to Bottom/Right places the bars against the bottom edge, or the right edge depending on the Direction setting, instead of the top or left.
- Padding sets the space on both sides of the bar.
- Offset along the bar's main axis shifts the bars lengthwise.
- Offset perpendicular to the bar shifts the bars sideways relative to that axis.
Quick Reference
- To hide bars for effects with plenty of time left, lower the Maximum Remaining Duration value.
- To hide bars for beacon effects that just started, raise the Minimum Beacon Effect Age value.
- To bring hidden bars back, move the relevant threshold in the other direction.
- To change colors, pick Effect, Category, or Custom as the color method, and fill in the custom color fields such as Benificial Bar Color when using Custom.
- To reposition the bars, use Align to Bottom/Right, Padding, and the two offset settings.
