Choosing Effect, Category, or Custom Color Modes in Status Effect Bars

guide

Status Effect Bars lets you decide how each status effect bar gets its color, and the mod gives you three distinct modes for that decision.

Picking a Color Mode

The Method of determining colors setting controls where bar colors come from. It offers three choices:

  • Effect — each bar takes on the color of that effect's own particles.
  • Category — each bar takes on the color assigned to the effect's category.
  • Custom — each bar uses colors you define yourself in the fields below.

Switch between these modes in the config interface. Only one mode applies at a time, so the mode you select determines whether the mod reads particle colors, category colors, or your own values.

Setting Custom Colors

The custom color fields are labeled Custom-mode-only colors, which means they have no effect unless you have selected Custom as your color mode. If you are using Effect or Category, these fields are ignored.

Within custom mode, you can assign colors for the different effect groupings. One example field is Benificial Bar Color, which sets the bar color used for beneficial effects.

To set a custom color, open the config, make sure the color mode is set to Custom, then enter your chosen color into the relevant field. Because the fields are tied to custom mode only, changing them while another mode is active will not change how bars appear.

Hiding Bars by Duration

Two settings let you suppress bars based on timing rather than color.

Maximum Remaining Duration hides a bar once its remaining time climbs above a threshold. The value is measured in ticks, and any effect whose remaining duration is greater than that number will not show a bar. This is useful for keeping long-lasting effects from cluttering the display while still showing effects that are about to run out.

Minimum Beacon Effect Age works in the opposite direction for beacon effects. It is measured in ticks, and beacon effects younger than the threshold have their bars hidden. Once a beacon effect has been active long enough to pass that age, its bar appears.

Both settings use ticks as their unit, so you will want to convert from seconds when choosing values.

Positioning and Spacing

Align to Bottom/Right changes which edge the bars attach to. When enabled, bars align to the bottom edge, or to the right edge if the Direction setting is oriented that way, rather than the default top or left alignment.

Three spacing options shape how bars sit on screen:

  • Padding on both sides of the bar adds space on each side.
  • Offset along the bar's main axis shifts bars lengthwise along their own direction.
  • Offset perpendicular to the bar shifts bars sideways relative to their direction.

Adjust these to move bars away from screen edges or separate them from other interface elements.

Operating the Interface

All of these options live in the Status Effect Bars Config screen. Open it through the mod's usual entry point, then adjust each setting directly. Where a control has its own hotkey, use the corresponding hotkey and set it in the controls menu if you want to change it.

Changes take effect as you apply them, so you can switch color modes, enter custom colors, set duration thresholds, and fine-tune placement in one session. If bars look wrong after a change, check that your color mode matches the fields you edited: custom colors only apply in Custom mode, and the duration and age thresholds only hide bars when their values are crossed.
