Stellaris Celestial Biomes, Temperatures, and Weather Overview
This guide provides an overview of all celestial biomes in the Stellaris mod, including their temperatures and weather conditions.
Biome Climate Categories
Each celestial biome in Stellaris falls into one of three climate categories: hot, temperate, or snowy. These categories directly determine the temperature value and whether rain occurs. The temperature values range from below freezing to very high heat, and most biomes have no rainfall at all.
Hot Biomes
Two biomes share the hot climate classification, both with a temperature of 1.6 and no rain.
- Infernal Venus Barrens: This biome is extremely hot, with a temperature of 1.6. It never receives rain. The primary monster spawn in this biome is the mogler.
- Mercury: Like the Infernal Venus Barrens, Mercury has a temperature of 1.6 and no rain. Its hostile mob spawn is the magma cube.
These hot biomes are characterized by their lack of precipitation and high heat, making them inhospitable without proper protection.
Snowy Biomes
Two biomes are classified as snowy, both with a temperature of -0.7 and no rain.
- Jupiter: This biome has a snowy climate with a temperature of -0.7. It does not rain on Jupiter.
- Mars Ice Spikes: This biome also has a snowy climate, with the same temperature of -0.7 as Jupiter.
The snowy biomes represent the coldest environments in the mod, with sub-zero temperatures that would freeze unprotected players.
Temperate Biomes
Two biomes are classified as temperate, both with a temperature of 0.8.
- Mars Desert: This biome has a temperate climate with a temperature of 0.8. The hostile mob that spawns here is the martian raptor.
- Mars Rocky Plains: Like the Mars Desert, this biome has a temperate climate with a temperature of 0.8. It also spawns the martian raptor.
Despite the name "Mars Desert," this biome is not hot—it sits in the middle temperature range. The temperate biomes are the most moderate in temperature, though they still lack rain.
Weather Patterns
Notably, none of the celestial biomes listed experience rain. Weather in Stellaris is therefore consistent across all biomes: dry conditions prevail everywhere. The only differences between biomes come from their base temperature, which ranges from -0.7 in the snowy biomes to 1.6 in the hot biomes.
Temperature Summary
For quick reference, the temperatures are distributed as follows:
- Hot (1.6): Infernal Venus Barrens, Mercury
- Temperate (0.8): Mars Desert, Mars Rocky Plains
- Snowy (-0.7): Jupiter, Mars Ice Spikes
Hostile Spawns by Biome
Each biome type has its own unique threat:
- Mogler: Infernal Venus Barrens
- Magma cube: Mercury
- Martian raptor: Mars Desert and Mars Rocky Plains
- Jupiter and Mars Ice Spikes: No listed monster spawns
Understanding these climate conditions is essential for planning exploration. Hot biomes require heat resistance, snowy biomes require cold protection, and temperate biomes are the most forgiving. Since no biome has rain, you do not need to prepare for precipitation, but you should always be ready for the specific hostile mobs that inhabit each location.
