Finding Mercury Factories, Castles, Mines, and Venus Outposts

guide

Mercury Structures

Mercury’s surface is dotted with several distinct structure types, each generated within the planet’s designated biome tag. They are spread out with deliberate gaps, so you will rarely find two of the same kind close together.

Mercury Big Castle

This is the largest defensive structure on the planet. It generates in Mercury biomes with one attempt per 60x60 chunk region, and each castle sits at least 40 chunks away from another. Because of this wide spacing, expect a long trek between castles. The castle itself offers substantial shelter and loot, but its size makes it easy to get lost inside.

Mercury Factory

Factories are more common than castles. They generate with one attempt per 50x50 chunk region, with a minimum separation of 30 chunks. This tighter spacing means you may encounter multiple factories while exploring a single large area. Factories contain industrial blocks and useful materials, but watch for hazards from machinery and open pits.

Mercury Lava Mines

These mines are built around exposed lava flows. They generate once per 60x60 chunk region, with at least 30 chunks between each mine. The lava makes navigation dangerous, but the mined ores and resources inside are often worth the risk. Bring fire resistance if you plan to search every tunnel.

Mercury Mining Ship

A crashed or landed mining vessel, this structure generates once per 60x60 chunk region and requires at least 40 chunks of separation. It is the rarest-spaced structure on Mercury alongside the castle. The ship’s interior may contain specialized mining equipment and storage, but its corridors can be cramped and dark.

Mercury Quarry

Quarries are open-pit excavation sites. They generate once per 60x60 chunk region, with a 30-chunk minimum gap. Unlike the lava mines, quarries are exposed to the sky, making them easier to spot from a distance. They often contain cut stone, raw ore, and abandoned tools.

Venus Structures

Venus hosts its own set of ruins and outposts, distinct from Mercury’s industrial theme. These generate in Venus biomes and follow similar spacing rules.

Venus Catacombs

The primary Venus structure is the catacombs — a network of underground tombs and corridors. They generate once per 50x50 chunk region, with at least 30 chunks between each entrance. Catacombs are tighter-packed than Mercury’s castles, so you may find several within a single exploration session. Inside, you will encounter narrow passages, burial chambers, and potential loot caches. The layout can be confusing, so leave markers if you plan to return to the surface.

General Exploration Tips

  • Spacing matters: The minimum chunk distances mean you should not expect to see the same structure type repeatedly in a small area. If you find one, the next of its kind will be at least 30–40 chunks away.
  • Biome tags: Each structure only appears in its respective planet’s biome tag (`mercury_biomes` or `venus_biomes`). Structures will not generate outside those biomes.
  • Preparation: Mercury structures often involve lava or industrial hazards. Venus catacombs are enclosed and may require light sources. Bring appropriate gear before entering.
  • Use landmarks: Since structures are rare and spaced far apart, mark their coordinates or build a small beacon nearby so you can find them again later.

Whether you are hunting for a factory’s parts, a castle’s stronghold, or the secrets buried in Venus catacombs, knowing the generation rules will save you time and help you plan your routes across each planet.
