Stendhal Text Formatting Guide: Colors, Unicodes, Style Reset, Clipboard Paste, and Stripping Styles

guide

Stendhal provides a set of on-screen tools for formatting text in books, pages, and signs, covering colors, unicodes, style resets, clipboard pasting, and removing styles. Everything is handled through the mod's interface and its hotkeys rather than through crafting, so the sections below describe what each control does and how to reach it.

The Colors and Unicodes List

The formatting interface includes a list you can switch between two modes. One mode shows colors, the other shows unicodes. Use the Switch between colors and unicodes list control to toggle between them. This lets you pick either a color entry or a unicode entry depending on what you want to insert into your text.

Inserting Text From Your Clipboard

When you are editing text and want to bring in something you copied elsewhere, use Paste the content of your clipboard at the caret position. This places your clipboard contents exactly where the caret currently sits, so position the caret first and then trigger the paste.

Resetting Style After the Caret

If you have applied formatting and want the text after a certain point to return to normal, use Reset the style after the caret position ($r). This inserts the reset marker at the caret, so everything following that point loses the styling that came before it.

Stripping All Styles

To remove formatting entirely while keeping the words, use Remove all the style and only keep the text. This is the tool for when you want plain content with no colors or other styling left behind.

Page-Level Formatting Tools

Pages have their own set of controls for copying, pasting, and editing:

  • Copy the content and style of the page in memory stores the current page, including its formatting.
  • Paste the content and style of the page from memory applies that stored page back onto a page.
  • Remove everything on the page wipes the page clean.
  • Create a blank page after this one inserts a new empty page following the current one.
  • Remove this page from the book, shifting the others accordingly deletes the current page and closes the gap.

There is also Paste Page Content, which pastes page content, alongside Clear Page Content for emptying a page.

Book-Level Formatting Tools

Books can be managed as a whole:

  • Import a book from the disk loads a book you previously saved.
  • Export a book on the disk saves the current book out.
  • Remove and clear all the book pages empties the entire book.
  • Copy the pages in memory for this world stores the book's pages for later use.
  • Paste the pages in memory in the book writes those stored pages back into a book.

Two related controls are Clear Book Content and Paste Page Content. When saving, a book needs a proper name: if the title is too short you will see "Please enter a title of atleast 3 characters," and if the name is already taken you will see "A book with the same name has already been saved before." Saved books go to the location shown as Saved Books folder:.

Sign Formatting Tools

Signs follow a similar pattern:

  • Clear the sign from its text removes the sign's text.
  • Copy the sign content in memory for this world stores the sign's content.
  • Paste the sign content in memory for this world writes that stored content back.
  • Export a sign on the disk saves a sign out.
  • Import a sign from the disk loads a saved sign.

There is also Clear Sign Content for wiping a sign. After a sign is loaded, you will see the message Sign Loaded from Disk along with the subtitle "Your Sign has been loaded!" and the instruction "Please edit the sign again and use 'Paste Sign' button." Saved signs go to the location shown as Saved Signs folder:.

Using the Controls

Each of these actions is bound to a hotkey rather than a fixed key shown here. To operate any of them, find the corresponding hotkey and set it in the controls menu, then trigger it while the relevant editing screen is open.
