How to Open the Subtle Effects Config Menu and Find Every Setting

guide

Subtle Effects is configured entirely through its in-game interface, and every option it offers lives inside that one menu. To reach it, click the on-screen control that opens the config menu. There is no crafting recipe, no item to hold, and no separate settings screen elsewhere — the interface is the single place where all Subtle Effects options are changed.

Opening the Config Menu

The mod exposes a clickable control for opening its configuration screen. Click it, and the menu appears. If you prefer binding an action to a key, look for the related entry in the controls menu and assign the corresponding hotkey there; no default key is assumed here.

Once the menu is open, settings are grouped by category. Each category holds the toggles, sliders, and lists that control one family of effects.

Where the Settings Live

Everything below is found inside the config menu, organized under its category headings.

Sound and ambience. Options cover campfire sizzling volume, monster spawner ambient and spawn-mob volumes, animal feeding volume, spawn egg use volume, egg smash volume, snowball poof volume, firefly buzzing volume, flame and smoke geyser volumes, bubble geyser volume, fluid drop evaporation and landing volumes, stomach growling volume and wait time, heart beating wait time, player and villager snore volumes, and the hiss played by burning entities.

Particles tied to blocks. Toggles exist for campfire sparks, campfire dowse smoke, campfire food smoke, sponge drying steam, rain evaporation steam, lava cauldrons evaporating rain, redstone block dust and its density, glowstone block dust and its density, beehive sleeping Zs, dragon egg particles, end portal smoke, pumpkin carving, anvil break and use, grindstone, smithing table, stonecutter, cauldron use, composting, command block particles and density, beacon particle type, density and speed, respawn anchors, beehive shearing, end portals, leaves decay, farmland destruction, amethyst sparkles and sounds, flowering azalea petals, sculk dust on blocks and veins, sculk shrieker and catalyst souls, calibrated sculk sensor sparkles, and lava cauldron effects.

Water, steam, and weather. Settings include water and lava dripping into fluid, steaming and boiling water cauldrons, steaming and boiling thresholds, rain water ripples and density, rain increasing leaf particles and leaf movement speed, powder snow flake replacement, and rain prevention toggles.

Falling blocks and dust. While-falling dust, its start distance, landing puffs, landing sounds, weak support dust and density, and bubble replacement underwater.

Entities and mobs. Sleeping Zs for players, villagers, foxes, bats, cats, and other mobs; snore chances; name tag adjustment while sleeping; potion rings and their particle type, scale, and alpha; NPC potion rings; attacked-mob particles for chickens, parrots, snow golems, sheep, and slimes; allay and vex magic density; slime and magma cube trails; slime squish and oozing replacements; spell caster replacement; iron golem cracks; spectral arrows; warden death souls; freezing snowflakes; panda tickling and sneezes; villager workstation particles; mooshroom feeding and shearing; blaze smoke; animal feeding particles; underwater entity poof bubbles; wet wolf shaking; villager sweating; magma cube landing sparks; snow golem step sounds; and feather, brush, and shear effects.

Player effects. Frosty breath, drowning bubbles and their density, alpha and column forcing, stomach growling threshold, heart beating threshold, breathing effects in creative, fire overlay height and alpha, night vision fading and its duration, and skull-wearing shaders.

Items and projectiles. Item rarity particles with color type, overrides, max height, max speed and density; ender pearl trails; XP bottle particles; egg splats; snowball trails and poofs; axe strip, scrape, and wax-off particles; bone meal; flint and steel; increased item break particles; bucket evaporation and fluid bucket particles; lingering and splash potion clouds; structure void markers; and armadillo brushing.

Rendering and performance. Particle culling, render distance, culling blocklist, unloaded chunk culling, blended render type options, glowing lava drops, fluid drop evaporation and ripples, heart popping, enchantment particles, potion particle alpha values, fallen leaf behavior and lifetime, static flame brightness, and the Enable Easter Eggs toggle.

Practical Notes

Density and threshold sliders accept zero in many cases, which turns the related effect off. Some options warn about lag on slower machines when large numbers of particles are involved, such as lava spark settings near big lava pools or beacon particles. A few settings only take effect when another mod is present, and some particle types must be set to ON before related block lists do anything.
