Graveyard Mod Structure Guide: Every Biome Variant
This guide covers all graveyard structure variants and where they generate across different biomes in The Graveyard (FABRIC). Each structure has its own biome requirements and spacing rules, so knowing these details helps you locate them efficiently.
Structure Spawning Basics
All graveyard structures generate using a chunk-based placement system. The game makes a set number of placement attempts per chunk region, and each structure enforces a minimum distance between individual spawns. Structures that override mob spawning for monster will suppress regular hostile mob spawns in their immediate area, which can make exploring them safer than the surrounding terrain.
Small Desert Graveyard
The Small Desert Graveyard is the desert-specific variant. It generates in biomes listed under the `#graveyard:has_structure/small_desert_graveyard` tag. Placement works with one attempt per 32x32 chunk region, and any two instances must be at least 28 chunks apart. This structure overrides mob spawning for monster, so you will not find standard hostile mobs spawning naturally inside it.
Small Grave
The Small Grave is a compact structure with the widest biome availability. It generates in biomes from the `#graveyard:has_structure/small_grave` tag. Placement allows one attempt per 12x12 chunk region, with a minimum separation of 8 chunks between structures. Unlike the desert graveyard, this variant does not override mob spawning, so normal monster spawn rules still apply.
Small Graveyard
The Small Graveyard is the standard, non-biome-specific variant. It generates in biomes from the `#graveyard:has_structure/small_graveyard` tag. Placement uses one attempt per 20x20 chunk region, and structures must be at least 18 chunks apart. Like the desert version, this structure overrides mob spawning for monster, meaning hostile mobs will not spawn there through normal game mechanics.
Small Mountain Grave
The Small Mountain Grave is the high-altitude variant. It generates in biomes from the `#graveyard:has_structure/small_mountain_grave` tag, which typically includes mountainous or elevated terrain types. Placement follows the same pattern as the Small Grave: one attempt per 12x12 chunk region, with a minimum of 8 chunks between structures. No mob spawning override is applied to this variant.
Small Savanna Grave
The Small Savanna Grave is the savanna-specific variant. It generates in biomes from the `#graveyard:has_structure/small_savanna_grave` tag, which covers savanna and similar dry grassland biomes. Placement matches the other grave variants: one attempt per 12x12 chunk region, with a minimum separation of 8 chunks. This structure also does not override mob spawning.
Practical Search Tips
- Check biome tags first: If you are looking for a specific variant, confirm you are in a biome that belongs to the correct tag. Using the F3 debug screen or a biome map can help identify valid locations.
- Use chunk spacing to your advantage: For the larger structures (Small Desert Graveyard and Small Graveyard), the wider spacing means you can search large areas without worrying about missing a nearby spawn. For the smaller graves, the 8-chunk minimum means you may find several in a relatively small region.
- Mob spawning differences matter: When entering a Small Desert Graveyard or Small Graveyard, prepare for the absence of natural monster spawns. In the other variants, expect standard hostile mob behavior and bring appropriate gear.
- Mountain and savanna graves are rare per region: Because the placement attempt is one per 12x12 chunk region, these structures are uncommon. Exploring systematically across the biome will yield better results than random wandering.
Each structure type offers a distinct exploration experience, and knowing which biome tag applies to your current location will save you time when hunting for a particular graveyard variant.
