Tide 2 Bait Types and Cooking Your Catches Into Food

guide

Tide 2 adds several bait items that help you get more out of fishing, and it also lets you turn what you catch into cooked food. This guide covers every bait type and the campfire cooking recipes that turn raw catches into meals.

Bait

Bait is the foundation for most of the other bait types. You make it with a shapeless recipe: combine Beetroot, Rotten Flesh, Beetroot Seeds, and Bone Meal. Because the recipe is shapeless, the arrangement of these four ingredients in the crafting grid does not matter. Keep a stack of Bait on hand, since you will need it to craft both Lucky Bait and Magnetic Bait.

Lucky Bait

Lucky Bait is crafted with a shaped recipe. You need eight Bait plus a Rabbit's Foot. Because the recipe is shaped, the position of the ingredients in the grid matters, so follow the recipe layout carefully. This makes Lucky Bait more expensive than plain Bait, since it consumes a large amount of your base bait along with a Rabbit's Foot.

Magnetic Bait

Magnetic Bait is also made with a shaped recipe, and it uses a wider mix of ingredients: Lapis Lazuli, two Bait, Redstone Dust, two Iron Nugget, and Prismarine Crystals. As with any shaped recipe, the placement of each ingredient in the crafting grid is part of the recipe. This bait costs more variety of materials than the others, so gather your Lapis Lazuli, Redstone Dust, Iron Nuggets, and Prismarine Crystals before you start crafting.

Abyss Bait

Abyss Bait does not use Bait as an ingredient at all. Instead, it is made with a shapeless recipe from a single Pale Clubfish. That means you need to catch a Pale Clubfish first, then craft it directly into Abyss Bait.

Incandescent Bait

Incandescent Bait follows the same pattern as Abyss Bait. It is crafted with a shapeless recipe from a single Incandescent Larva. Catch or obtain an Incandescent Larva, then use it in the crafting grid to produce Incandescent Bait.

Campfire Cooking

Once you have your catches, you can cook them. Campfire Cooking has five recipes in total. Each one turns a raw catch into a cooked food item:

These recipes let you convert a range of different catches into edible results rather than leaving them raw. Note that the output is not always a generic cooked fish — several catches produce their own distinct cooked item, such as Grilled Tuna, Large Cooked Fish, and Small Cooked Fish.

Putting It Together

Start by crafting a batch of Bait from Beetroot, Rotten Flesh, Beetroot Seeds, and Bone Meal. From there, decide which specialized bait you want: Lucky Bait if you have a Rabbit's Foot and spare Bait, or Magnetic Bait if you have gathered Lapis Lazuli, Redstone Dust, Iron Nugget, and Prismarine Crystals. If you happen to have a Pale Clubfish or an Incandescent Larva, you can turn either one directly into Abyss Bait or Incandescent Bait respectively.

After fishing, take your catches to a campfire and cook them. Rainbow Trout and Fish Slice become Cooked Fish and Cooked Fish Slice, while Tuna, Arapaima, and Guppy become Grilled Tuna, Large Cooked Fish, and Small Cooked Fish. With five cooking recipes available, most of your notable catches have a cooked form waiting for them.
