TaCZ Core Crafting and Basic Target Blocks for New Players

guide

The core crafting table and basic target/statue blocks are the essential starting point for new players in the TaCZ mod. This guide covers the primary crafting station, the ammunition storage box, and the two simple practice blocks you can place in your world.

The Gun Smith Table

The Gun Smith Table is your main crafting station for firearms and related equipment. To build one, you will need a specific arrangement of materials: three Dark Oak Logs, four Iron Ingots, and one Block of Iron. Place the Block of Iron in the center of the crafting grid, surround it with the Iron Ingots in a plus shape, and use the Dark Oak Logs to fill the top row. Once assembled, this table becomes the hub for most of your advanced weapon crafting.

Ammunition Boxes

Before you can craft most items, you will need an ammo_box. This is a storage container that holds ammunition and is also a component in other recipes. The ammo_box is versatile because it can be made with three different materials, but the pattern is always the same: seven Oak Planks arranged in a "U" shape (filling the top row, left column, and right column, leaving the bottom center empty). In the empty bottom center slot, you place one of the following:

  • A Diamond (using the tag `#forge:gems/diamond`)
  • A Gold Ingot
  • An Iron Ingot

Any of these three versions will produce a functional ammo_box.

Advanced Workbenches

Once you have an ammo_box, you can use it to create more specialized workbenches. The workbench_a is crafted by combining two Copper Ingots, one Iron Ingot, and one ammo_box. The workbench_c requires four blocks of Glass (using the tag `#forge:glass`), one Redstone Torch, two Iron Ingots, and one Chest. These workbenches likely unlock different tiers of crafting, so you will want to build them as you progress.

Gunpowder Production

A simple and useful early recipe is making Gunpowder. You will need one Flint, two Sugar, and three Charcoal. This recipe yields three Gunpowder per craft, giving you a renewable source of ammunition propellant without needing to find it in the world.

The Humanoid Target

For testing your aim, the Humanoid Target is a basic practice dummy. The crafting recipe is shaped: place five Iron Ingots in a "Y" or "T" shape (for example, one in the top center, one in the middle left, one in the middle center, one in the middle right, and one in the bottom center), with one Redstone Dust in the center bottom slot and Oak Planks filling the remaining bottom corners. This target will register hits, letting you see where your shots land.

You can also place this target on a minecart. Simply combine a Humanoid Target with a Minecart in the crafting grid to create a Minecart with Target. This allows you to have a moving target for more dynamic shooting practice.

The Stone Statue

The Stone Statue is another decorative and functional block, likely used as a target or display piece. To craft it, you need one Quartz Slab, two Quartz Stairs, and two Chiseled Quartz Blocks. Arrange the two Chiseled Quartz Blocks in the bottom corners, place the Quartz Stairs in the middle row (left and right), and put the Quartz Slab in the top center. This statue provides a more refined look for your testing range or base.

Getting Started

Your first goal should be to craft an ammo_box, then use it to build a workbench_a. After that, create a Gun Smith Table to begin making your first firearms. Place a Humanoid Target a safe distance away to practice your accuracy, and keep a supply of Gunpowder ready for when you start loading your weapons.
