TrashSlot Keybinds: Toggle, Lock, and Delete Items

guide

TrashSlot adds a deletion slot to inventory screens, and its keybinds let you show, hide, lock, and delete items without touching a crafting grid. This guide covers those controls, the on-screen messages they produce, and how delete-key behavior changes in Creative mode.

Toggling the Trash Slot

The toggle action shows or hides the trash slot. When you use it to turn the slot on for the screen you are viewing, a message confirms that the trash slot is now enabled for that screen. When you use it to turn the slot off, a different message tells you the trash slot has been toggled off and prompts you to press the key again to bring it back.

Use the corresponding hotkey for toggle (set it in the controls menu). No default key is assumed here; assign whatever is comfortable and check the controls menu if you are unsure what is bound.

The first time the trash slot is toggled off — or when it can be enabled on a screen that supports it — TrashSlot can display a hint. That hint can be turned off through its setting if you would rather not see it.

Locking and Unlocking

The toggle lock action switches the trash slot between locked and unlocked. Locking produces a message stating the trash slot is locked and telling you to press the key to unlock it. Unlocking produces the matching message: the slot is unlocked, and pressing the key again will lock it.

Use the corresponding hotkey for toggle lock (set it in the controls menu). Locking is separate from hiding: toggle controls visibility, while toggle lock controls whether the slot is locked.

Deleting Items

Deletion is handled by keybinds rather than by dragging items into a crafting recipe. One available action is Delete All Items of Type, which removes every item of the same kind rather than a single stack.

If an item is protected, the game responds with Item cannot be trashed! instead of deleting it. Protection comes from the Deletion Deny List, a comma-separated list of entries written in the form "modid:name". Any item named there cannot be deleted.

By default, the deletion slot removes items instantly, in the same manner as Creative Mode. This behavior is tied to the instant deletion setting.

There is also a setting called Allow Deletion While TrashSlot Is Invisible. It is described as not recommended, but when enabled it lets the deletion keybinds work even while the trash slot itself is hidden. If you prefer deletion to require a visible slot, leave this off.

Delete Keys in Creative Mode

The Delete Keys in Creative setting controls whether the delete keybinds function in Creative mode. Set it to true if you want those keybinds to work there as well. One important consequence: in Creative mode, items are deleted permanently no matter how the instant deletion setting is configured. Turning this setting on therefore means deletion in Creative cannot be undone by the usual instant-deletion behavior.

When the Server Lacks the Mod

If the server does not have TrashSlot available, a notice appears stating that the server does not have TrashSlot and that the mod will be disabled. In that situation the trash slot and its keybinds are not usable.

Quick Reference

  • toggle — show or hide the trash slot; use its hotkey from the controls menu.
  • toggle lock — lock or unlock the trash slot; use its hotkey from the controls menu.
  • Delete All Items of Type — remove every item of that type, subject to the deny list.
  • Deletion Deny List — comma-separated "modid:name" entries that cannot be trashed.
  • Delete Keys in Creative — allows delete keybinds in Creative, where deletion is permanent.
  • Allow Deletion While TrashSlot Is Invisible — permits deletion keybinds while the slot is hidden; not recommended.
