What Happens When the Server Doesn't Have TrashSlot

guide

When a server does not run TrashSlot, the mod turns itself off on your client, and the message serverNotInstalled explains why: the server lacks the mod, so this mod will be disabled. That check keeps you from relying on a trash slot that the server can't support, and it means the slot's normal behavior simply won't be available while you're connected there.

What the Disabled State Means

The serverNotInstalled notice is the mod's way of telling you the server side is missing TrashSlot. In that situation, the mod disables itself rather than continuing to offer its slot. You don't have to change a setting to make this happen — the mod reaches that state on its own when the server doesn't have it.

The practical result is that the trash slot is not active on that server. Features tied to the slot, such as toggling its visibility, locking it, or deleting items through it, are not in play while the mod is disabled. The mod isn't asking you to fix the server; it's reporting the condition and stepping back.

How the Mod Disables Itself

The mod's own response to a server without TrashSlot is the serverNotInstalled state. This is a self-disable: the mod recognizes the server doesn't have it and turns itself off. You'll see the message rather than a working slot, which makes the reason clear instead of leaving you with a slot that silently fails.

Because the mod disables itself, there's no partial version of the slot to manage in that state. Actions like showing or hiding the slot, locking or unlocking it, or using delete keybinds belong to the mod when it's active. Once it has disabled itself due to serverNotInstalled, those actions aren't part of the experience on that server.

Operating the Slot When It Is Active

On a server where the mod is not disabled, the slot is controlled through a few actions. The toggle action shows or hides TrashSlot. The toggle lock action locks or unlocks it. When you lock it, the mod reports Trash slot locked, and when you unlock it, it reports Trash slot unlocked. These messages confirm the state you just set.

Enabling the slot is also tied to the screen you're on. The mod indicates you can press the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu) to enable the trash slot for the current screen. If you turn it off, the mod tells you that you've toggled off the trash slot and that you can press the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu) to re-enable it.

Deletion Behavior and Safeguards

Deletion has its own settings. Delete All Items of Type is an available action. The instantDeletion option makes the deletion slot remove items immediately, in the same manner as Creative Mode. enableDeleteKeysInCreative controls whether delete keybindings also work in Creative; when enabled, items are deleted permanently in Creative no matter what the instant deletion setting is.

There are also limits on what can be removed. deletionDenyList holds items that cannot be deleted, written as comma-separated "modid:name" entries. If you try to remove one of those, the mod responds with Item cannot be trashed! Separately, allowDeletionWhileTrashSlotIsInvisible permits the delete keybinds even when the slot is hidden, though the mod notes this is not recommended.

A hint setting controls whether TrashSlot shows a tip the first time the slot is toggled off or when it can be enabled on a supported screen; turning that off stops the hint.
