Twigs: New Building Materials and Stone Variants
Twigs is a building mod that adds new materials and fresh renditions of vanilla blocks. This guide covers the materials worth gathering first.
New stones
Twigs introduces several new rocks with full brick, polished and shingle sets: 
Schist, 
Rhyolite, 
Bloodstone and 
Silt. Bloodstone is crafted from two 
Nether Quartz and two iron nuggets, while Silt is a soft riverbed material — a 
Silt Ball smelts into a 
Silt Brick, and packed silt forms dyeable 
Silt Shingles and 
Silt Pot in every color.
Vanilla additions
The mod also reworks vanilla blocks into new forms, adding columns and variants through the stonecutter — for example 
Blackstone Column from blackstone, plus chiseled bricks and cracked variants made by smelting the brick forms.
Getting started
Most Twigs blocks are made at a crafting table or stonecutter from common materials, so there is no machine to build first — just gather stone, clay-like silt and bamboo and start shaping. The decorations guide covers the mod's lanterns, pots and natural touches for finishing a build.
What the mod is, in numbers
Twigs is 259 pages across 242 blocks and 17 items, built on 257 crafting recipes, 283 stonecutting recipes and 9 smelting recipes.
The headline is that stonecutting is the largest category — larger than crafting — which tells you how to use the mod: cut variants from a parent block rather than hunting for individual recipes.
No progression to follow
With no machines, no ores and no structures worth naming, there is nothing to unlock. Every block is available as soon as you have its base material, so the mod is a palette rather than a tech tree.
Where the items go
Seventeen items against 242 blocks means the handful of carried items are tools or ingredients for the blocks rather than gear. Do not expect equipment.
Version parity
All three recipe categories carry identical counts on 1.21.1 (3.1.2) and 1.20.1 (3.1.1), so nothing in this mod is version-specific — unusual for a mod of this size, and convenient when following an older build tutorial.
First things to make
Start with whichever stone you already have in quantity and run it through a stonecutter to see the family it produces. That single action shows you more of the mod than reading a recipe list would, because the 283 stonecutting entries are organised by parent block rather than by output type.
