Ultimate Car Mod Basics: Crafting Recipes, Tools, and Starting Components
The Ultimate Car Mod basics guide covers the essential crafting table recipes, tools, and components you need to begin building your first vehicles. Before you can assemble anything, you must understand the core materials and the tools that make construction possible.
Essential Tools
Three basic tools are required for most vehicle assembly and modification tasks. Each is crafted using the same simple shaped recipe: one
Iron Ingot placed with one
Iron Stick. The resulting item depends on the arrangement, but the ingredients are identical.
Hammer – Used for shaping and assembling body panels and frames.
Wrench – Required for tightening and adjusting mechanical connections.
Screw Driver – Needed for securing smaller components and fittings.
Additionally, the
Engine Piston is a fundamental mechanical part, also crafted from one
Iron Ingot and one
Iron Stick. This component is the building block for all engine recipes.
Core Engine Recipes
Engines are the heart of any vehicle. The crafting system includes 161 total recipes, but the engine line is the most important to learn first.
3 Cylinder Engine – Combine
Flint, one
Engine Piston, and one
Block of Iron. This yields a single 3 Cylinder Engine.
6 Cylinder Engine – Upgrade a
3 Cylinder Engine by combining it with one
Iron Ingot. This produces a more powerful 6 Cylinder Engine.
These two recipes form the foundation for all powered vehicles. Start with the 3 Cylinder Engine for lighter builds, and upgrade when you need more performance.
Vehicle Bodies and Wood Types
The mod supports eight different wood types for vehicle bodies. Each wood type has both a standard and a "Big" version. The standard body is crafted from six planks of the matching wood, while the Big body uses a different arrangement of the same planks.
Available wood types include Acacia, Birch, Crimson, Dark Oak, Jungle, Oak, Spruce, and Warped. For example, six
Acacia Planks craft an
Acacia Wood Body, while six
Acacia Planks in a different pattern craft a
Big Acacia Wood Body. The same pattern applies to all other wood types.
Bumpers and License Plate Holders
Every body needs protection and proper identification. For each wood type, you can craft two additional components:
- Wood Bumper – Combine six planks of the matching wood with one
Iron Ingot. For example,
Acacia Planks plus an
Iron Ingot yields an
Acacia Wood Bumper. - Wood License Plate Holder – Combine six planks of the matching wood with one
Iron Stick. For example,
Acacia Planks plus an
Iron Stick yields an
Acacia Wood License Plate Holder.
These components are crafted per wood type, so match them to your chosen body for a cohesive build.
Wheels
Wheels are universal and not tied to any wood type. Two versions exist:
Wheel – Craft from one
Black Wool and one
Iron Ingot.
Big Wheel – Craft from one
Black Wool and one
Iron Ingot, but in a different arrangement than the standard Wheel.
Both recipes use the same ingredients, so pay attention to the pattern you place in the crafting grid.
Fuel and Power Systems
Beyond the engine, you need fuel storage and power management.
Battery – Combine one
Iron Ingot with one
Iron Stick. This stores electrical power for your vehicle’s systems.
Backmix Reactor – Combine one
Iron Ingot, one Tank, and one
Redstone Dust. This advanced component is necessary for certain high-performance configurations.
Road Materials
To test your vehicles, you will need paved surfaces. Asphalt is crafted in batches of eight using any of three equivalent recipes:
Cobblestone +
Charcoal →
Asphalt x8
Cobblestone +
Coal →
Asphalt x8
Cobblestone +
Black Wool →
Asphalt x8
From each block of
Asphalt, you can craft six
Asphalt Slabs or six
Asphalt Slopes, allowing you to build roads, ramps, and smooth driving surfaces.
Start by crafting the three tools and an
Engine Piston. Then build a
3 Cylinder Engine, select your preferred wood type for the body, add bumpers and a license plate holder, and finish with wheels. With these basics, you can assemble your first functional vehicle and begin experimenting with the full range of 161 crafting recipes.
