Creaking, Happy Ghast, and Sulfur Cube Guide for Vanilla Backport

guide

Vanilla Backport adds several mobs from newer Minecraft updates, and this guide covers the Creaking, Happy Ghast, and Sulfur Cube, along with their sounds, related items, and music discs. Everything here is done through the mod's interface and hotkeys rather than crafting, so the sections below focus on what each feature does and how to trigger it.

Creaking and the Creaking Heart

The Creaking is tied to a block called the Creaking Heart. To work with it, use the Heart Transplanter feature, which lets you place a Creaking Heart so that it aligns correctly between two Pale Oak Log blocks. Getting that alignment right is what the feature is for.

When a Creaking appears, you will hear the spawn sound described as "Creaking manifests." The Creaking Heart itself has its own audio cues: it "awakens" when it spawns and "grumbles" when it is hurt. A Creaking Spawn Egg is also available if you want to bring one into the world directly.

Pale Oak also brings a set of decorative and functional blocks you can place, including the Pale Oak Fence Gate, Pale Oak Pressure Plate, Pale Oak Hanging Sign, Pale Oak Wall Hanging Sign, Pale Oak Wall Sign, Stripped Pale Oak Log, Stripped Pale Oak Wood, and a Pale Oak Boat with Chest. A Potted Pale Oak Sapling is available as well.

Happy Ghast

The Happy Ghast is another mob added by the mod. Its idle sound is described as "Happy Ghast croons." When it is equipped and prepared, you will hear "Happy Ghast is ready," which is tied to the harness goggles being lowered.

You can obtain a Happy Ghast Spawn Egg to summon one. Harnesses come in Light Blue Harness and Light Gray Harness variants for dressing your Happy Ghast.

Sulfur Cube

The Sulfur Cube has a few distinct behaviors worth knowing. A key one is that you can have a Sulfur Cube absorb a TNT block. If you would rather not deal with the results, note that Sulfur Cube explosions are disabled — this is a setting you can rely on to keep things calm.

Sulfur Cubes come in a small form as well. The small Sulfur Cube has its own sounds: it "puts on mass" when it eats, it "bounces" when it jumps, and it "hurts" when damaged. The full-size Sulfur Cube also bounces and can be pushed. When a small Sulfur Cube dies, you will hear "Small Sulfur Cube dies."

There is also a lava-related death message for the Sulfur Cube: one version reads that it "died because not just the floor is lava," and a player-related version says a player "showed" another that not just the floor is lava.

To move a Sulfur Cube around, you can use a Bucket of Sulfur Cube. The action of scooping one up is described as "Sulfur Cube scooped." A Sulfur Cube Spawn Egg is available too.

Sulfur also brings building blocks: Polished Sulfur Slab, Polished Sulfur Stairs, Polished Sulfur Wall, Sulfur Brick Stairs, and Cinnabar Brick Slab, Cinnabar Brick Stairs, Cinnabar Brick Wall, Polished Cinnabar Slab, Polished Cinnabar Stairs, Polished Cinnabar Wall, Resin Brick Stairs, and Chiseled Resin Bricks.

Dried Ghast and Eyeblossom

The Dried Ghast is handled by placing a Dried Ghast block into water. Its sounds reflect this: "Dried Ghast rehydrates" plays as an ambient water sound, and "Dried Ghast feels better" plays as a transition.

The Eyeblossom has an idle sound described as "Eyeblossom whispers." You can display it as a Potted Closed Eyeblossom or a Potted Open Eyeblossom.

Sulfur springs also produce a sound: "Sulfur spring bursts" plays on a geyser eruption, and noxious gas appears alongside it.

Wolf Armor

Wolf Armor can be managed in two ways. To take it off a Wolf, use Shears to remove the Wolf Armor. To restore damaged Wolf Armor, fully repair it using Armadillo Scutes.

Advancements

Two advancement titles are tied to this content: Bundles of Bravery and The Garden Awakens. A separate advancement involves taming one of each Wolf variant.

Music Discs

Three music discs are included, each with its listed description: fingerspit - Bounce, Hyper Potions - Lava Chicken, and Amos Roddy - Tears.

Controls and Stacking

An Air Drag Modifier control is available, and you can hold a mixed stack of items. For any action that has a corresponding hotkey, set it in the controls menu before use.
