Vein Mining Server Settings: Vein Size, Tool Rules, Damage, Exhaustion, and Block Lists

guide

Vein Mining lets a player break a cluster of matching connected blocks in one action, and its server-side settings control how large that cluster can be, which tools qualify, what it costs the player, and which blocks are affected.

How Vein Mining Is Triggered

Vein mining is an action the player performs while mining. The activation behavior depends on the server configuration. When the base maximum block count is zero, one setting decides how to activate vein mining; when the base maximum block count is greater than zero, a separate setting decides the same thing. If the chosen activation mode requires holding a key down, the player must first assign one under Options > Controls > Key Binds. If no key has been assigned, the game reports that the vein mining key is unbound and that a binding must be set before the controls will work. If the configuration does not rely on key bindings at all, the game says so instead.

Two crouch-related behaviors exist. One makes crouching the way to start vein mining; the other makes crouching the way to stop it. A disabled-by-configuration message appears when the feature is switched off server-side.

Vein Size Limits

Two settings cap how many blocks a single vein mine can break. One applies when the tool carries no Vein Mining enchantment. The other applies for each level of the enchantment, so higher levels raise the ceiling. A value of zero for the base maximum means the enchantment is what enables vein mining in the first place.

Tool Requirements

Required destroy speed sets the lowest destroy speed a tool must have against the block before vein mining is allowed. Require correct tool makes vein mining refuse to start when the tool in use could not produce drops from the source block. Separately, if the tool lacks the Vein Mining enchantment, the game tells the player that the enchantment is needed.

Durability, Damage, and Exhaustion

Stop vein mining with no durability ends the action once the tool is no longer usable. Vein mining does not break tools prevents the tool from ever being destroyed by vein mining. Vein mining damages tools applies wear for every block broken, and Vein mining tool damage multiplier scales that wear. Vein mining adds exhaustion applies player exhaustion for every block broken, and Vein mining exhaustion multiplier scales that exhaustion.

Block Selection

Vein mining blocks chooses which blocks can be vein mined, either from a preset or from a custom list. When it is set to "CONFIG_LIST", Vein mining blocks list supplies the blocks or block tags, and Vein mining blocks list type decides whether that list allows or denies them. Vein mining groups defines sets of blocks or block tags that are treated as one vein. Diagonal vein mining allows blocks to be matched diagonally rather than only directly adjacent. Relocate vein mined drops moves the drops from the broken blocks to the location of the source block.

Enchantment Behavior

The enchantment has a rarity and a number of levels. It can be flagged as a treasure enchantment, allowed in villager trades, allowed to generate in loot, applied at an enchantment table, and applied on books. Required enchantability for first level sets the minimum for level one, and Additional required enchantability per level sets how much more is needed for each level after that. Incompatible enchantments lists enchantments that cannot be combined with it, and a further setting lists the items it can be applied to.

Player-Facing Feedback

Enchantment tooltips adds vein mining instructions to the tooltip of enchanted items. Enchantment notifications shows instructions above the hotbar when the player switches to an enchanted item. Enchantment warnings sends the player a warning when the enchantment is used improperly.
