Where Thatmob Base and Lookout Generate in Plains
Both Thatmob Base and Thatmob Lookout generate in the same biome: minecraft:plains. That single shared requirement is the most important thing to know before you go looking for either one, because it means a plains-only search covers both structures at once.
The Biome Requirement
Plains is the only biome either structure spawns in. If you are standing in a forest, a savanna, a meadow, or anywhere else, you will not find a Thatmob Base or a Thatmob Lookout no matter how far you walk. The search begins and ends with plains terrain.
This also means the two structures overlap in range. Any plains region is theoretically eligible for both, so a single sweep across a large plains area is the efficient approach rather than hunting them separately.
How Placement Works
Neither structure is placed freely. Each one gets one attempt per 25x25 chunk region. That is a large area, so most regions will not contain a structure at all — the attempt is a chance, not a guarantee.
On top of that, both structures must be at least 5 chunks apart from one another. You will not find a Thatmob Base and a Thatmob Lookout packed tightly side by side. If you locate one, expect some travel before the next one appears.
The practical takeaway: do not search a small area and conclude the structures are absent. You need to cover ground at the scale of the 25x25 chunk regions, and you need to accept that spacing will keep finds spread out.
What to Expect Inside
The facts do not describe the interiors, loot, or mobs of either structure. What can be said is that they are distinct structures with distinct names, and both are found in plains. Beyond that, plan to explore them yourself.
Searching Efficiently
Because both structures share a biome and a placement rule, one search strategy serves both:
- Stay in plains. Leave any other biome immediately if your goal is finding these structures.
- Move in long, straight lines rather than circling a small base. The 25x25 chunk region size rewards distance covered.
- Do not double back over ground you have already checked. One attempt per region means a region you have crossed is a region you have already rolled for.
- Expect gaps. The 5-chunk minimum separation means finds come in isolation, not clusters.
Common Mistakes
The biggest mistake is searching the wrong biome. Players often assume a structure found near plains also generates in neighbouring biomes — neither of these does. Plains only.
The second mistake is judging by a small sample. With one attempt per 25x25 chunk region, a short walk proves nothing. A player who crosses a few chunks, finds nothing, and gives up has not actually tested the area.
The third is expecting the two structures together. The 5-chunk spacing rule rules that out, so treat each find as its own trip.
Summary
Thatmob Base and Thatmob Lookout both generate in minecraft:plains, each with one placement attempt per 25x25 chunk region and a minimum of 5 chunks between them. Search plains, cover long distances, and expect the two to be well separated when you do find them.
