Using the Color Interval Slider to Edit, Add, and Remove Wake Color Sections

guide

The Color Interval Slider is the control for dividing the wake color range into sections and adjusting how each section looks. You reach it through the mod's interface rather than through crafting, and every action on it is performed with the mouse combined with a modifier where noted.

Opening the Slider

The slider lives behind the mod's configuration screens. Open Mod configurations, then choose Configure wake colors. The Color Interval Slider is the control you work with once that screen is open. A Reset configuration option is also available if you want to discard your changes and start over.

What the Slider Represents

The slider is built from sections separated by dividers. Each section covers a portion of the color range, and the separators mark where one section ends and the next begins. By editing sections and moving separators, you control which colors appear across the wake and how much room each color occupies.

Editing a Section's Color

To change the color of an existing section, left click on that section. The click targets the section itself, so aim at the area between two separators rather than at a divider. This opens the color editing for that specific section, letting you set the color used there.

Resizing a Section

To change how far a section extends, left drag one of its separators. Dragging a separator moves the boundary between two neighboring sections, which makes one section larger and the other smaller. This is how you tune the balance between colors without adding or removing anything.

Inserting a New Separator

To split an existing section into two, hold shift and left click on the section. This inserts a new separator at that point. The result is an additional section, which you can then give its own color by left clicking it, or resize by dragging its separators.

Removing a Separator

To merge sections back together, hold shift and left click on a separator. This removes that separator, so the two sections it divided become one. Use this when you have more sections than you need or want a single color to cover a wider span.

Quick Reference

  • Left click a section: edit that section's color.
  • Left drag a separator: change how far the adjacent section extends.
  • Shift + left click a section: insert a new separator there.
  • Shift + left click a separator: remove that separator.

The color sections you build here shape the appearance of the wakes, and several other settings affect how those wakes render. First person splash plane controls whether the player's own splash plane is visible in first person. The pixel resolution setting adjusts the wakes so they fit better with certain resource packs. Shader light passthrough fine tunes wake appearance when shaders are in use, with higher values producing brighter wakes. Render wakes with debug colors draws wakes in debug colors instead, and Show debug info in F3 adds debug information to the F3 display.

Simulation behavior is grouped under Simulation & planes, and the Effect Spawning Rules divider separates the rules for what effect appears when a boat, the player, other players, mobs, or items move through water. Wave behavior is governed by Wave propagation factor, which sets how much a pixel influences its neighbors inside the wakes, and by the setting that determines how much of a pixel's value remains after each tick on a logarithmic scale. Initial wave strength sets the strength a source begins with when producing a wake. Flood fill distance and Ticks until flood fill control flood filling, and a separate option lets you grab a boat quickly by middle clicking water, working like pick block.
