XaeroPlus Chunk Highlight Modules for Basehunting and Trail Analysis
XaeroPlus adds several chunk-marking modules to the Minimap and WorldMap that help you read a trail, spot old terrain, and find where players may have slipped between dimensions. Each module paints chunks on your maps in a color you choose, and most can be toggled, tuned, and saved between sessions.
Working the Maps
When a map screen is open, the mouse buttons drive it: left-click draws, right-click erases, and the middle button pans. You can rearrange entries in a list by holding and dragging them into a new position.
NewChunk Detection
Two separate methods flag freshly generated chunks.
Palette NewChunks reads the chunk data palettes the server sends and marks chunks it judges to be new. It works across the standard dimensions and is described as more dependable than the liquid-based approach. Related options let you set the Palette NewChunks Color and Palette NewChunks Opacity, flip on Palette NewChunks Inverse to instead mark chunks that were already generated, and enable Save/Load Palette NewChunks to Disk so results persist per world and dimension. Palette NewChunks Rescan rechecks chunks you have already examined — handy when revisiting a trail where chunks were culled — with Palette Min Rescan Age setting how old a highlight must be before it qualifies. A separate toggle, Palette Version Upgraded, targets chunks upgraded from an older game version, overworld and nether only.
Liquid NewChunks judges chunks by the flow states of liquids inside them. It cannot work where nothing is flowing, and it does not function in the End. It has its own Color, Opacity, disk save/load toggle, and a Render Inverse mode that marks chunks already loaded by looking for flowing liquid — though biomes and structures such as bastions and basalt deltas can produce flowing liquid and therefore false positives. Liquid NewChunks Only Y > 0 restricts the search to above y=0.
OldChunks and OldBiomes
OldChunk Highlighting marks chunks whose contents indicate generation in 1.12.2 or earlier, aimed at 2b2t. A companion setting highlights the opposite: chunks from 1.13 or later. You can adjust its color and opacity and enable Save/Load OldChunks to Disk.
OldBiomes highlights chunks matching 2b2t's 1.12.2 biome set. Because chunk blending during the upgrade can obscure OldChunk detection, this module fills gaps — but it only runs in the overworld and will flag many false positives, though genuine trails should stand out. It has its own color, opacity, and disk save/load options.
Portals and Portal Skips
Portal Highlights marks chunks containing Nether or End portals, with adjustable color and opacity plus a disk save/load toggle.
Portal Skip Detection marks chunks a portal could have loaded into — useful for seeing where someone might hop dimensions mid-trail to shake a hunter. Note that 2b2t's view distance is too small to catch portal skips unless you load a 15x15 chunk area around yourself. Options include PortalSkip Opacity, PortalSkip Color, PortalSkip Search Delay (ticks between searches), and PortalSkip Portal Radius (the chunk radius loaded around a portal exit). PortalSkip NewChunks and PortalSkip OldChunks Inverse use those modules to rule out chunks that were never loaded, so a portal could not have been made nearby.
Breadcrumbs
Breadcrumbs highlights chunks you have traveled through. Breadcrumbs Mode chooses between Chunk Radius, which marks chunks within a set distance of your path regardless of what the server sends, and Seen Chunks, which marks only what the server actually sends. Breadcrumbs Chunk Radius sets that distance, and color and opacity are adjustable. Save/Load Breadcrumbs To Disk keeps the data per world and dimension.
Lava Columns and Other Highlights
Lava Columns marks nether chunks containing lava columns and varies their color by column height. Lava Columns Minimum Height sets the threshold, and opacity follows a formula combining a shift value and a per-height step. You can also save the data to disk.
Additional modules highlight chunks captured by WorldTools, chunks downloaded by WDL, chunks visited by Breadcrumbs, and 2b2t Highways, map art areas, region borders, beacons, and spawn chunk states — each with its own color and opacity settings. Transparent Obsidian Roof makes build-height obsidian see-through, with adjustable minimum Y and darkening; already-mapped tiles need remapping.
Open the chunk highlight settings from the XaeroPlus WorldMap settings, and bind the actions you use most in the controls menu.
