Moving, Selecting, and Configuring Xaero's Minimap Interfaces
Xaero's Minimap provides an on-screen map that you can reposition, resize, and tailor through its edit mode and settings menus.
Selecting and Moving Interfaces
To manage the minimap and its related panels, you first need to enter edit mode. This mode is only available while you are inside a world; the mod will notify you if you attempt to use it from the main menu.
Once in edit mode, you can interact with each interface element directly:
- Select an interface by left-clicking it.
- Move a selected interface by left-clicking and dragging it.
- Deselect an interface by right-clicking it.
- Center (or uncenter) the selected interface by pressing "C".
- Flip (or unflip) the selected interface by pressing "F".
- Open settings for the selected interface by pressing "S".
You can also drag the minimap itself around the screen by left-clicking and dragging it. To change the order of information displays, click and drag the individual elements within the interface list.
Edit Mode Basics
When you first enter edit mode, the mod shows a welcome message. Some interfaces have a different appearance when centered, so you may notice visual changes as you toggle centering.
To apply a pre-made layout, use the "Choose a Preset" button. There are presets for the Bottom-Left Corner and Bottom-Right Corner. After making any adjustments, press the Confirm button to save your changes, or the Cancel button to discard them. You can also choose to Restore Default Settings, which will ask for confirmation because the action cannot be undone.
Accessing Settings
Pressing "S" on a selected interface opens its settings. Many options are available, and the mod groups them logically. For example, you will find sections for Block Map Settings, Information Settings, Miscellaneous Settings, Entity Radar Settings, and Entity Category Settings.
Within these menus, you can adjust a wide variety of behaviors. For instance, under the map settings, you can:
- Toggle Lock Minimap North to keep the map fixed with north at the top.
- Change the Minimap Size to control how much area is visible.
- Adjust the Undiscovered Opacity for unexplored areas.
- Switch the Overlay Render Layer.
The Info Display Manager lets you configure and rearrange text shown under the minimap, such as coordinates, biome, weather, and light level. You can also set the Info Text Alignment and the background opacity for these displays.
Entity and Waypoint Controls
The entity radar can be toggled on and off. You can configure categories (players, hostile mobs, items, etc.) separately, or create custom categories. For each category, you can set dot colors, icons, names, and inclusion/exclusion lists. The Reverse Radar Render Order option changes the drawing priority.
Waypoint-related settings are extensive. You can:
- Toggle In-World Waypoints and On-Map Waypoints.
- Control the scale of waypoint icons, name text, and distance text.
- Set Max WP Render Dist. and Min WP Render Dist..
- Choose whether to display distance text and at what precision.
- Enable In-World Waypoints to show markers in the 3D world.
Additional Options
Several toggles control specific features:
- Display Coordinates shows your position.
- Display Current Biome and Display Current Dimension add contextual info.
- Display Facing Angles shows your heading.
- Compass Over Waypoints and Compass Over Everything change how cardinal letters are drawn.
- Cave Mode can be set to activate automatically based on blocks above you, or manually with a key binding. You can set the starting Y level for manual cave mode.
- Toggle Light Overlay displays light levels, but this can reduce performance.
- Hide When Under Screen and Hide When Under F3 remove the minimap during GUI or debug screens.
Some options depend on server settings. A server may disable certain features, or require an item in your hotbar for the map to work. The mod will inform you if a feature is unavailable due to server rules.
Finally, remember that the "Enlarge Minimap" key binding can be treated as a toggle rather than a hold. You can also configure the Zoom Level When Enlarged and whether the map centers or zooms out when enlarged.
