Using Xaero's World Map: Interface, Zoom, and Right-Click Actions

guide

This guide explains how to open and operate Xaero's World Map, focusing on its basic controls, zooming, scrolling, and the shortcuts available through right-clicking.

Opening the Map and Basic Controls

To view the full-screen map, use the corresponding hotkey (set it in the controls menu). Once open, the map screen displays your world from a top-down perspective. You can move the view by clicking and dragging the map with your mouse. The map's behavior and appearance are managed through the Xaero's World Map Settings menu, which you can access from the map screen.

The map screen includes several on-screen buttons. Some buttons have additional key bindings that are shown in their tooltips. You can edit these bindings by clicking the indicated prompt within the controls help box. The map also provides a Hop To Coordinates field. Enter space-separated X and Z coordinates into this field and press ENTER to move the map view to that location.

Zooming and Scrolling

Zooming is performed with the mouse wheel. Scroll up to zoom in and scroll down to zoom out. For more precise zooming, hold CTRL while scrolling. The map also provides alternative on-screen buttons for Zoom In and Zoom Out if you prefer not to use the wheel.

The map has settings that alter zoom behavior. Display Zoom Level shows the current zoom amount. The Unlimited Fullscreen Zoom-in and Unlimited Fullscreen Zoom-out options allow you to go far beyond the standard zoom limits, though the zoom-out option is experimental and not optimized for regular use.

Right-Click Shortcuts and Area Selection

Right-clicking the map opens a context menu with useful shortcuts. The options available depend on what you click.

  • Right-clicking an empty map position offers actions like Set Temporary Waypoint, Share Location In Chat, and teleportation if it is allowed.
  • Right-clicking a waypoint provides options such as Teleport to Waypoint, Open Waypoint Menu, and Share Waypoint In Chat.
  • Right-clicking a tracked player (if the feature is active) can offer Teleport to Player or Edit Player Config.

You can also hold right-click and drag the mouse to select a rectangular area. This is used for actions like claiming chunks (with the Open Parties and Claims mod) or exporting a portion of the map as an image. While making a large selection for claiming or forceloading, a message appears with a right-click option to cancel the action.

Map Selection and Confirmation

The mod needs to know which map to display. The Map Switching Options setting controls this. The Manual mode asks you to select and confirm the world map each time you switch worlds or dimensions. World Spawn selects the map automatically based on the world spawn point. Single uses one map for each dimension. Server mode lets the server control the map selection automatically.

If the map is unconfirmed, you may see a prompt like "World map needs confirmation!" and teleportation may be restricted. You can confirm a map through the map selection interface. Teleporting to a map that is not connected to your current one is blocked, and you will see a warning about it.

Additional Map Features

The map screen provides several toggles and options. Toggle Dimension switches between dimensions, and holding shift reverses the direction of the toggle. You can also toggle the display of tracked players, chunk claims from the Open Parties and Claims mod, and the minimap's entity radar.

For map data management, you can Reload Viewed Regions to refresh what is on your screen. The Reload All Regions and Convert All Regions options work in the background to reload or convert the entire map. The Export feature allows you to save the map as a PNG file, with options for exporting the full map, using multiple images, and including active highlights.
