XP Storage: Books That Hold Experience
XP Storage adds books that store experience so you can bank levels instead of losing them. The mod's progression runs through a small set of crafting recipes, starting with 
Crystallized Lapis and ending with upgraded 
XP Book tiers. This guide covers each recipe chain in order.
Crystallized Lapis
Everything begins with Crystallized Lapis. Combine four 
Lapis Lazuli with one 
Amethyst Shard in a shaped crafting recipe to produce Crystallized Lapis. Treat this as your base material — nearly every other recipe in the mod consumes it.
Smithing Template
Smithing Template is the second core component. There are two shaped recipes that yield it:
- Eight Crystallized Lapis plus one
Diamond produces a Smithing Template. - Four Crystallized Lapis plus one Smithing Template produces two Smithing Template.
The second recipe is a duplication method: once you have a single Smithing Template, you can turn it into more without spending another Diamond.
XP Book
With Crystallized Lapis in hand, craft the base storage item. Four Crystallized Lapis plus one 
Book in a shaped recipe yields an XP Book. This is the entry point of the book line.
Upgrading to XP Book II
The first upgrade combines a 
Netherite Ingot, three Crystallized Lapis, and an XP Book in a shaped recipe to create 
XP Book II. Note that this recipe uses three Crystallized Lapis, not four.
Upgrading to XP Book III
The second upgrade follows the same pattern one tier higher. Combine a 
Nether Star, three Crystallized Lapis, and an XP Book II in a shaped recipe to produce 
XP Book III. Because it requires an XP Book II as input, you must complete the previous upgrade first.
The Upgrade Recipes
XP Storage also lists a separate set of upgrade recipes that use a Smithing Template alongside a book and a third ingredient:
- Smithing Template + XP Book + Diamond
- Smithing Template + XP Book + Nether Star
- Smithing Template + XP Book + Netherite Ingot
Each of these three recipes consumes one Smithing Template, one XP Book, and the listed material. The outcomes of these recipes are not specified here.
The Deprecate Recipes
A third recipe group exists for retiring older books:

Putting the Chains Together
Read as a whole, the mod gives you two parallel routes. The first is the direct book chain: Crystallized Lapis and a Book make an XP Book, which upgrades to XP Book II with a Netherite Ingot, which upgrades to XP Book III with a Nether Star. The second is the smithing route, where a Smithing Template is paired with an XP Book and one of three materials. Both routes depend on Crystallized Lapis, and Crystallized Lapis depends on Lapis Lazuli and Amethyst Shard, so stock those two materials before you begin.
Plan your Diamond use carefully: one Diamond is needed to create your first Smithing Template, and the template duplication recipe lets you stretch that single template into more. The Nether Star requirement for XP Book III is the steepest cost in the book chain, so decide early whether you are pursuing the direct upgrades, the smithing recipes, or both.
