Finding and Navigating Yggdrasil Ruins, Fractures, and Labyrinths

guide

Locating the Structures

The Yggdrasil mod scatters several major structure types across the world. Each one has a specific spawn pattern based on chunk regions, so you can estimate how far you must travel to find them. None of these structures are guaranteed to appear in every region; the game makes one attempt per region, and the attempt may fail.

  • Dokkalfar Ruins: Attempts to generate once per 30x30 chunk region. Any two Dokkalfar Ruins will be at least 25 chunks apart.
  • Proto Fracture: Attempts to generate once per 30x30 chunk region. Any two Proto Fractures will be at least 20 chunks apart.
  • Runic Fracture: Attempts to generate once per 45x45 chunk region. Any two Runic Fractures will be at least 35 chunks apart.
  • Runic Labyrinth: Attempts to generate once per 30x30 chunk region. Any two Runic Labyrinths will be at least 25 chunks apart.
  • Cubeoid: Attempts to generate once per 30x30 chunk region. Any two Cubeoids will be at least 25 chunks apart.
  • Neogard: Attempts to generate once per 30x30 chunk region. Any two Neogards will be at least 20 chunks apart.

Because the minimum spacing is smaller than the region size, you will rarely find two of the same structure close together. For the Runic Fracture, the larger 45x45 region and 35-chunk minimum gap mean you should expect the longest search.

Dokkalfar Ruins

These ruins are the most common large structure you will encounter. When you spot stonework that looks ancient and broken, you have likely found a Dokkalfar Ruin. Search the exposed rooms and corridors carefully, as the layout is not always straightforward. The ruins are not a single open hall; expect multiple chambers and partial walls.

Proto Fracture and Runic Fracture

Fractures appear as unstable tears in the terrain. The Proto Fracture is the smaller and more frequent of the two. The Runic Fracture is rarer and requires a wider search area. When approaching either, check the edges of the fracture for pathways that lead downward or inward. The internal structure may be vertical rather than horizontal, so look for ledges and drop-offs. Do not assume the fracture is shallow; the main content is often below the surface line.

Runic Labyrinth

The Runic Labyrinth is a true maze. Its corridors are lined with runic blocks, and the paths branch frequently. As you move through, keep a mental note of turns, or mark walls if you have blocks to spare. The labyrinth does not follow a simple grid; dead ends are common. Pay attention to changes in floor material or wall decoration, as these may indicate a junction or a return to a previously visited area. If you become lost, try to follow one wall consistently until you find a landmark.

Cubeoid

The Cubeoid is a blocky, geometric structure that stands out from natural terrain. Its exterior is regular and boxy, but the interior may not match the outside. Enter through any visible opening and clear each room methodically. Because the structure is compact, it is easy to miss a hidden passage. Check behind pillars and in corners.

Neogard

Neogard is a distinct structure with its own layout. It is less common than the Dokkalfar Ruins but shares a similar spacing pattern. When you find a Neogard, treat it as a multi-level site. Look for staircases or ramps that lead to upper or lower floors. Some areas may be sealed off and require you to find an alternate entrance.

General Navigation Tips

  • Always bring light sources; every structure type has dark interior sections.
  • Carry blocks for bridging gaps and for marking your path.
  • Since structures are spaced far apart, note your coordinates before descending so you can return to the surface.
  • If you find a structure but it seems small, check for an underground extension. The visible part is not always the whole site.
  • The rarer the structure (by region size), the more thoroughly you should search it, as you may not find another one nearby.
