YUNG's Better Mineshafts Overview and How to Find the New Mineshafts

guide

YUNG's Better Mineshafts replaces the ordinary underground tunnel network with a richer, more varied structure, and it gives you a way to seek those structures out directly. This guide covers what the mod changes, how its settings are organized, and how to use the locate command to find a mineshaft.

Locating a Better Mineshaft

The standard structure search will not return the mineshafts this mod generates. To search for one, run the command /locate structure #bettermineshafts:better_mineshafts instead. Use that tag form exactly as written; a plain mineshaft search points at the old structure rather than the modded one.

What the Mod Adds

Better Mineshafts rebuilds the mineshaft into a main shaft with branching parts around it. Along the main shaft you can encounter smaller tunnels, side rooms built around workstations, and cellars tucked below those workstations. Small tunnels can end in an Abandoned Miners' Outpost. Ore deposits appear as part of the structure, and lanterns, torches, cobwebs, and minecarts carrying chests or TNT are placed throughout. Every one of these elements has its own spawn rate you can adjust.

Spawn Rates and More

The Spawn Rates & More section holds the controls for how often each piece of the mineshaft appears.

  • Minimum y-coordinate and Maximum y-coordinate set the lowest and highest points the mineshaft floor can reach.
  • Disable Vanilla Mineshafts decides whether the original mineshafts are turned off.
  • Lantern Spawn Rate controls how often lanterns appear in the main shaft.
  • Torch spawn rate controls how often torches appear in small shafts.
  • Workstation Spawn Rate controls how often workstation side rooms appear along the main shaft.
  • Workstation Cellar Spawn Rate controls how often cellars appear beneath those workstations.
  • Small Shaft Spawn Rate controls how often the smaller tunnels branch off the main shaft.
  • Cobweb spawn rate controls how often cobwebs appear.
  • Small Shaft Chest Minecart Spawn Rate and Main Shaft Chest Minecart Spawn Rate control how often chest-carrying minecarts appear in small shafts and in the main shaft.
  • Small Shaft TNT Minecart Spawn Rate and Main Shaft TNT Minecart Spawn Rate do the same for minecarts loaded with TNT.
  • Abandoned Miners' Outpost Spawn Rate is the percent chance that an outpost appears where a small tunnel ends.
  • Small Shaft Piece Chain Length sets how many pieces (straight sections, turns, and similar) make up one small shaft, which decides how large small shafts become overall.

Ore Deposits

Ore deposits have their own group of settings. Enable Ore Deposits turns them on or off. Each ore type has a percent chance field: cobblestone only (an empty deposit), coal, iron, redstone, gold, lapis, emerald, and diamond.

One important note applies to these ore percentages: all of the values must total 100. If they do not add up, the deposits will not behave the way you intend.

Adjusting Settings

Open the mod's settings through its interface, then change any value described above. There is no crafting step involved. If a setting has a corresponding hotkey, bind it yourself in the controls menu rather than assuming a default.
